Description
Hi there,This is another concept for my book project The CrowsΒ΄ Parliament. As you can see is an homage to Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows and the wonderful art of Arthur Rackham. In my book some of the characters of Graham's book (and from other victorian child book classics) appear in a very different and pop-surrealistic way. I hope you like it.
Done in Photoshop CS3 with a Wacom Cintiq 12WX.I'll post the process and some details in my blog: [link]
Comments and critics are most welcome, thanks

Arthur Rackham is my all time favourite artist I love the way you've done this though and the colours you've chosen work really well within the piece.

Wonderful style! I love to see so much detail being put into a background!
I'm not sure how much you usually like to give away, but after watching the step-through of it on your blog, I'm curious as to what layers and blending modes you use =/ In my shallow attempts I've never got a colour to sit right over a greyscale underpaint ._.
Thanks in advance if you can spare any tips! Keep up the spiffing work!

I'm in the same boat as you, actually! So I hope you don't mind my unsolicited advice, but this is something that's worked for me. A pretty easy way is using the color balance to saturate your grayscale underpainting... I think this would work well in a monochromatic piece like Felideus's awesome one here (and use some layer masks to fade it out in the lighter areas). At least that is how I would do it. But then I still end up painting more color on top of it with soft light or overlay blends depending on the contrast (or just painting over parts of it anyway
).
But yeah that's mostly in case he can't reveal his secrets because I'm sure he has some super awesome secret techniques that I am equally curious to discover. ^^

Late reply, but worth it to say thank you for the tips! I guess I'll fiddle around some more and see if there's more comprehensive tutorials for such things =/ Obviously talent is a fix-all, but I was hoping there'd be at least a quick, easy cheat! xD
Keep up the good work yourself btw, your colouring is lovely as is!

What a fun picture. All your hard work made it easy and enjoyable to look at. There is almost a Samuel Palmer feel to some of it: [link] . This could be a collector's item. If you like the unusual you should visit our gallery: [link] .

Thanks for the walk down memory lane !
