Description
"...But Odin saw one jotun named Mimir, who was wise and not wild. He was the owner of a magic spring that welled up where one of Yggdrasil's roots ended in Jotunheim. It was the Well of Wisdom. In it lay all the knowledge of the age-old race of jotuns, and Mimir, who quenched his thirst at the well each morning, was the wisest of the wise.Odin went to Mimir and asked if he too might drink from his well. Mimir was too wise to hate the Aesir, but he would let him drink only if, in return, Odin would share his all-seeing sight. So Odin gave his left eye to Mimir and drank....
...Mimir hid Odin's eye deep in the Well of Wisdom, and when he looked down through it, he could see everything in the wide world. From then on, he was Odin's great friend and adviser." --brought to you from d'Aulaire's Norse Gods and Giants.
I really wish dA had a mythology section under fantasy, or even on its own. I mean, lots of people submit stuff of this nature, and I hardly think it fits under "Sword and Sorcery".
Bah.
