Description Part of a small Japanese mythology encyclopedia made for the Abunai 2007 conbook.

I like the myths surrounding hitodama, so alike the western will-o'-wisp but with added origin. It is not, however, easy to make a half decent interesting illustration of one. >_<

The author however tends to leave out the fact that the temperment of these corpse lights is dependent on how the person who it once was died.

People who are murdered/ died horribly/wicked in life tend to have rather evil/ aggressive intentions. There is a reason why some lead travelers astray. It is also said that close relatives or the psychically inclined tend to be able to see the face of their loved one in the flame.

Just remember, the dead were once alive like you, so it is important for you to respect them as you would like to be respected.

Try to say that much with a limited amount of signs.

I'm really fascinated by these lights. I even have an OC or two who uses these lights as means of self defense.

And I still think it's nice to look at. Calming. You emulated that old japanese style very well.

Hmm, rewriting my comment (typo too!) What I mean to say is. When I tried to draw a Hitodama, I was wondering how can I make it more interesting, it's a cute floating light, what do I do with?

Your version works very well, because the minimalist approach works awesome with the Japanese inkt like style.

Yay, thank you. That's good to hear! Gives a pencil-wielding writer some confidence. ^_~
