Description A design-Concept for a Quad-Rotor transport aircraft, done as practice. Got inspired to do this after seeing a model of something similar, but wanted to have a realistic take on it. There's also some actual concept-illustrations for designs by Boeing floating around the web, but I only came across those later.

I'm a big fan of military aircraft, so this was a lot of fun to do. I still need to practice the technical perspective more though, the rotor-blades were a pain to draw.

Love it! IΒ΄m developing UAVS for life saving missions in Stockholm, Sweden. Right now I doing research for a VTOL ducted fan quad bombplane that will parachute AEDΒ΄s on the countryside of Sweden, to save lives. We got a civil system that engages the public to do CPR at a specific location, and we are building up a civil rescue group. Those organisations reagullary dont have AEDΒ΄s. During this year (2019) the Swedish ambulance are supposed to begin use the AED ambulance drones, but due to the tecnical issu when a drone fails I dont think they will get permission to reach target on the mainland. My work is 100% charity, IΒ΄m doing this for the cause.Β
I love the body of your Quad VTOL Is it ok that I use it, and if so, do you have any profile drawings of the body. The wings will get much wider and the engines will be large electric ducted fans.
Really nice! Best regards from Johan, Warpussy Rescueflightstation FoundationΒ

Hey im making a game and it seems that you would be great for drawing vehicles and some UAVS for it. Right now I dont have a budget, but if youre willing to work with me ill give you a percentage pay of the buisness once its done, or pay in any way you choose(not exactly, but im seriously looking and so im really flexible for the pay right now). If you are thinking about this, please email me at moosymantheboss@gmail.com

Do you have any specs for this?

No, since it's fictional I did not think about actual specifications or the likes.

I think Bell is actually in the early stages of developing a C-130 sized tilt rotor and has been for a while now, so while you may have designed this yourself, the concept isn't fictional per se. Plus, a similar aircraft appeared as a transport in Tom Clancy's EndWar (really underrated game IMO) released back in 2008.

Not trying to be an asshole, this is awesome work, but I felt compelled to bring that up.

Edit: Found it, the Bell-Boeing Quad TiltRotor: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_Boe…

is that an original cockpit design? I feel like I've seen it before somewhere but I can't put my finger on it..

I took inspiration from lots of places...Ch-47 Chinook Helicopters, C-130 Hercules planes...V22 Ospreys....a bit of everything, really.

An excellent conceptualization of a medium sizedΒ  VTOL transport. I think that the USMC and Army would like something like this, that could replace a C-130 and carry its same load. The military is looking for a stealth transport, more likely jet, but this would work well on carrier based Marine Expeditionary force operations, especially if it could be scaled up enough to carry a Humvee like vehicle. This is not a criticism simply an observation. I am not an aeronautical engineer, so I am not sure, but don't you think that even with the tilt rotor system you would also need vertical stabilizers and/or rudder systems on the stern? This is an excellent piece of art-work and a great effort. Best of luck on your future endeavors.

Thank you! You do raise some good points and I might revisit the idea at some point. But back when I drew this it was enough of a challenge to get it to look like this, even though it still has some flaws.Β

Well, this was inspired by a mix of the Osprey and and some "what if" concept art of realistic quad tiltrotors flying around the internet, Edge of tomorrow didn't even have a trailer out at the time.Β

Got a couple problems with it though. Β A) the engines seem at big, they look like they are actually sitting on the ground. Β B) I highly doubt the Marines would utilize something so big. Β Maybe as a replacement for their KC-130 tankers but that's about it. Β Still, excellent job!

Ferain In reply to LightspeedToVictory [2014-03-26 11:42:29 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

Blame the engine's appearance on my poorly placed shadow, they have about as much Ground-clearance as the Osprey's when tilted up.Β

As for the size, I intended this to be a replacement for the Superstallions. Of course, how that would fit on an amphibious assault ship is anybody's guess ^^

With as much trouble as they had getting the dual-rotor osprey to work properly, I can only imagine how hard it would be to get this to work. Still a very cool concept and very well drawn.

Ferain In reply to Darnok219 [2013-07-25 22:25:31 +0000 UTC]

Wings generate lift by moving forward. When the jet-powered VTOL hovers, the wings generate no lift, which would mean the engines have to do it all by thrust alone and that would consume way too much fuel. Rotors make more sense.
