WARNING FOR SANDING: Don't breathe in the dust!
Either moisten the sandpaper or wear protection gear.
A bandana properly covering your nose and mouth should do.
The dust can be dangerous for your lungs.

Edit: Sorry, I can't find the time to work on part 2. Simple version:
1. Either paint the sculpture white or spray it with white acrylic spray paint. Don't breathe it in!
2. let the base coat dry.
3. Start painting it using acrylic paints. Start with bigger areas.
4. For really small details, use a fairly small brush.
5. Seal it with spray finish or paint-on finish after it dried.

Hello! I have a brief question. I was searching tutorials and I heard someone mention using turpentine to brush over everything once it's been sanded to give it a smoother texture. Have you tried this and does it work? Does it affect the clay itself and the drying time?
I'm curious as I'm a right beginner and I want to do this correctly before just jumping at it.

Hey! I mostly use the Terpentine before I bake. Not after. In that case, it does really help smoothen the surface! I didnt have any when I made this sculpture, but I used it on another one.

this is great, will just regular sculpey clay work though or does it have to be super sculpey? (i know that's a stupid question, but i'm so new at this i've never done this before ^^')

Ah okay, now i'm thinking of making a raven sculpture, by which i plan on putting craft feathers on the wings for realism. however i was going to coat the sculputure in plasti-dip to make it harden (sinec resin takes far too long and is a pain :/) would that work and when would i have to put the feathers in the wings? before or after the oven or before or after the plasi dip coating? (since i was going to shove them into the center of the wing peice to hide the stems of the feathers)

everything i have seen says not to repeatedly or over bake super sculpy (its the only thing i've tried playing with so far)
what can i actually expect from repeatedly baking a single piece (due to the brittleness of the clay when overbaked) and ways to fix it without continually making it more and more brittle?
i am only just started to get into working with clay big time and am still trying to learn different techniques and ways people do things so could experiment on my own to see what i am best with, haha

No. If it's weak, you can use multiple pieces. Mine is medium so I can bend it properly.

Wow! Awesome tutorial- it'll sure as heck help me. X3 However, I've only ever worked with pottery clay before, and I am new to sculpey, so I was wondering if you could help me with a few questions I had about it?
On the box, it says not to "overbake"- I realize that this means that I shouldn't leave it in the oven for too long, but does it also mean that I can't bake it multiple times?
Do you ever have problems with the clay or tape holding in air bubbles, which expand in the oven, causing the clay to crack?
Does the tape burn up while in the oven?
Can you use other sorts of tape, or will only crepe tape do?
Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial, it's really helpful!

- You can bake multiple times. I explained in the tutorial.
- I havent had any problems with that yet
- Not yet, but it melts a little
- I'm not sure. I'd rather stay with crepe tape because the clay sticks to it so well.

Thank you this tutorial it is really helpful.
A few question hope you don't mind.
I have been using air drying clay and I find it breaks easily, is the super sculpey tougher as it goes in the oven?
Also why do you mix the two clay? does that make it tougher?
I tried using polymer clay and found it way too tough and you can't do little details with it.
Your favourite tool looks really good to use, what is it?
sorry for all the question
thanks
