Description
I believe I have mentioned before that in the winter Sandhill Cranes arrive in Gainesvile to overwinter. More excatly they come to Payne's Prarie in vast numbers. I went out there today with 20 mph winds at 38 degrees and you could still see hundreds of them spread about and you could still their constant whooping to each other. One could stand still and have anywhere between 5 to 10 of these large birds fly right over you as these two did. It was certainly worth the chilly weather to see it and photograph it!Related content

incredible! I've only seen these at our local zoo, not entirely sure if they travel all the way down to Naples (will look into this next).

They travel down to Palm Beach County where I'm from, that much I can assure you. However, in the winter each year literally thousands of them congregate at Paynes Prairie just south of Gainesville. Quite the site to see (and hear) to be sure!
