The Italian planes fared much better than their armoured ground-based counterparts.
But, even the planes tended to have underpowered engines and to be under gunned, like the Macchi MC 202 Folgore: only two .50 cal MGs. But it was highly maneuvrable, had a good climbing speed and horizontal speed.
Check out the battle records of the FIAT G55 Centauro. And of the Macchi MC 205 Veltro.
You'll see that the Italians packed some really serious winged stuff.

Pretty much. One of the tanks was so poorly conceived that the turret was too big fr its ring and wouldn't rotate correctly and could only rotate 35degrees to any side, I believe.. Plus, it was extremely cramped and the crew could barely move. Another bit of proof of Mussolini's 'genius'.

It's because Mussolini had an Alexander the Great complex. He even stretched his forces super thin EARLY on into Greece, Africa, and Southern France. Every single time Hitler had to bail him out. In the end, he grew tired of it and decided to use Mussolini as the head of a puppet government. Also, Mussolini created fascism. Hitler created nazism. The two are not the same.
