Description
(This is part fourteen of a series of images accompanied by parts of a story. The story largely features the SCP Universes' Plague Doctor Character 049. You can read the story or just enjoy the pictures. Thank you for viewing.)
Dr. Kline tapped out Shave and a Haircut with the cap of her red pen. On the security monitor positioned between two groups of stupid, 049-themed knick-knacks left by past personnel, was finally something worthy of her attention.
It had almost made her laugh to see the medieval idiot try to play chess with his instances, offer them tea, or on one particularly hilarious occasion, teach one of them to dance. She had to keep reminding herself that the things were once people. One of them had been Dr. Hamm.
An unsettling part of her refused to care about stuff like that, or maybe she did care. Maybe her desire to examine stuff like this more thoroughly was how her mind expressed concern in the first place. Whatever the case, it made her good at her job.
There it was again. It looked like the instance had tried to shoo the Doctor away. That never happened.
“Can we retrieve this instance?”
Dr. Mills stepped out of his office and leaned on the doorframe. “How’d he get a-hold of this one?”
“D-2206 escaped his handlers and offered himself to our friend. He seemed to be experiencing some kind of medical attack. The guards wanted to keep things in not out. They reported sounds of things breaking but claim the D-class was behind 049. They couldn’t see whether it was the Doc or some kind of stroke that got him first.”
“Wasn’t there an intern involved?”
“That guy took some unauthorized amnestics before he could be de-briefed and didn’t recall anything. The camera footage makes the D-class look like a fairly typical 049 victim. Sure it’s bad, but it’s not like the intern stuck around long enough to see any of that happen.”
He joined her at the monitor screen. “Any clue as to what would make a D-class just feed himself to a skip like that? Do you think it’s connected to whatever made the intern want to wipe his mind?”
She stood up and wandered over to the necropsy table. A scalpel in her hand helped her think. “Those are even more reasons we’ll need to convince Dr. Schnoz to part with his current pet.”
He shrugged. “It will get itself shot eventually. Those things have anger issues something fierce. They’ll let us have the body when it happens. They always do. Now if you want it alive, well, that’s become an even bigger problem due to the Doc’s “most effective” method of safeguarding his “children”.
