Two things:
1) her feet look like she has a platypodia, why is that?
2) pink tail?
The rest is great

haha your comments are great as always.
1. eh.. what? Her feet could some more tweaking, I didnt plan on showing her feet much when I made the model
2. yes its a lightning issue (basically me not tweaking settings enough ). Just like real skin hers isΒ a little translucent so when bright light hits it some light gets through and colors it pink or red.
Just like it happens with our ears or when you put a light source under your fingers (an extreme example). since I didn't add underlying tissue and bones it also happens on her tail and other thinner bits.
Light is too bright or I should tweak the skin settings or add a map or underlying tissue to the figure. In other words I don't color it, I set the specs and then have to wait and see how the render turns out

You're welcome
I know that I'm a huge pain in the ass with noticing details and pointing things out, but I think that it's a healthy criticism, and maybe it'll make you a better artist
Besides, we're all big Avatar fans, so we want the Avatar fanars, cosplay, crafts, etc, to be perfect, isn't it?
And my first thoughts of the tail here were "Wtf? Pink tail?? That's a big Avatar "no no" "
So yeah, I HAD to ask about it ;D

Late reply, was on vacation.. but yeah its appreciated! Feedback really helps, now i kinda have to tweak the skin translucencyΒ once and for all. My lazyness catches me everytime

Will there be more like this of her doing other exercises?

What is your secret for keeping such nice volume in the hips and butt in such an extreme pose?

Well i think it starts during modeling, making sure you have enough vertexes (polygon points) you need and no more then that. With to high poly count it quickly becoms very hard to control.Β Also make sure the flow of the topology is right. Then its just about getting the joint placement right and taking your time setting the weights. Maya is really strong here tho, there are some other things here but those are Maya specific.
Oh and when things get really hard you could also add deformers or muscles and bones type systems like i did on Jake (gives you more motion and things to cheat with).Β On Neytiri i didnt use any of that tho, it makes things cpu heavy fast.

As you probably know I have a bit of experience with maya, but I'm sure I'm years behind you.
I am pretty astounded at the beautiful curve between Neytiri's upper thigh and her pelvis in this image.
I don't see any unwanted inter-penetrations in the geometry or other problems I've come across in my work.
Plus, her buttocks maintain great volume too!
Are you using any kind of corrective blendshape to maintain the forms here, or is it all just joints and skin-weighting?
Oh, also! Tell me about the grass in this image. I have used the maya grass before, but unless you want millions of polygons in your scene you have to use software rendering instead of mental ray.
I have been wanting to make a nice landscape scene for a little while, but I'm concerned about managing the grass properly for the rendering engine. Any advice?

Thanks! There is still plenty to learn for me aswell But yeah, collissions suck. When CPU's get stronger there will probably automatic ways to avoid them. Already possible sort off but way too heavy.
I didnt use anything special on Neytiri, just joints and skin weights. Maya has plenty of options too for difficult areas. Ofc they usually give life to other new problems but oh well... I guess that goes for other packages aswell but i know too little of those to tell. Cant even keep up with Maya (think i will be on 2014 for some time anyway. especially now that you need a subscription.. ugh).
And there really is no light way of creating grass (beside a texture?). Not sure what u used tho, fur? For these quick renders i use paintfx, yeah its alot of polygons when combined with MR. Well i use a pc that can warm up my house using only cpu heat and i can say i need it for 3D (but its awesome for games too )
Anyway i think good and light modeling with nice flowing lines is prob an important start and at first often overlooked. Same for the placements (and orientation for other reasons) of the joints.

Neytiri: Jake why don't you like stretching your back?
Jake: I don't want to talk about it
