NEYTIRI Character Study from the movie AVATAR
(updated version - now with braid) 
PLEASE COMMENT BEFORE YOU 
Direct Maxon Cinema4D R11.5 render without any postwork.
V4 based 3D mesh using advanced morphs and other modifieres. I did some mayor improvements on the body and head morphs. Eyes, Nose and Ears are now Na'vi like. The body morph is adjusted. It was a challenge to get the Na'vi eyes. Believe me! Resolution is 3000x3000 pixel.
Advanced and complex light and reflection setup.

Here is some character background:
Neytiri is the daughter of Na'vi clan leaders Mo'at and Eytukan. She saved Jake Sully's life when he was being attacked by a pack of viperwolves. After Jake and Neytiri met, she begins to love Jake and eventually Jake joins the Na'vi to help Neytiri and the others save their tribe/village.
The Na'vi tribe clan is called the 'Omaticaya Clan', Neytiri is the princess of the tribe.

Lovely... I love her ears, tail and skin the most. Paired with DarioFish's morphs and I think you'd have a perfect Na'vi. What hair did you use?

That's MADCREDIBLE!! And trust me, I don't make up new words lightly, hehe, this is truly impressive. I am completely unfamiliar in the ways of making 3-dimensional art, so I can really admire it. The proportions look great, and so does the colour. The face actually reminds me more of Grace's avatar than Neytiri, since Grace commonly wore the tails of hair by her ears. The one thing that does strike out to me is the base, doesn't fit in as well.

Do you have a recommendation for 3D software for someone who is just starting? I'm currently working with Paint Shop Pro and ArtRage, both 2D packages. Also some GIMP for certain things.

Blender [link] is a free 3d model and render tool. I would suggest this for the start.
From my point of view Cinema4D is one of the best render tools on the market. But it depends how you like to work. There is Modo, Lightwave, 3DSMAX, Rhino and a lot of other modelling tools...
