Description
Gnomon Troll - 3D Render--------------------------------
Complex 3D Light and Render-Setup in Maxon Cinema4D R12 using HDRI, Image-based-lighting, Global Illumination and Anbient Occlusion.
Copyright of the troll model and the troll base texture belongs to Jonas Thornqvist jonas.cgsociety.org/gallery and the grnomon workshop.
I used a Poser building for the environment and improved some details like the column on the right side. Caused by the base 3d mesh in 3ds max all texture shaders had to be redone.
project backgrounds here: www.mike-reiss.com/3d/troll.phβ¦
Improved Texture shaders using c4d-multilayer and procedural shaders. Improved eye texture and reflection. Improved metal shader for the weapon. Improved skin shader for the trolls skin. Optimized and subdivided 3D mesh. Thanks to Jonas Thornqvist for this great 3d modell!

but didnt you say that the model isnt yours? thats basically only a render

mike-reiss In reply to P-Nik [2013-11-02 07:30:49 +0000 UTC]
If you leave the textures and shaders for skin, metal, fabric, eyes etc..., the light and environment setup by side as well as the building and all the other stuff it is ONLY a render...

you make it sound like it's a big deal, but rendering is pretty much the easy part of any composition.Β

Ok Matthew said almost everything that I want to say. Great job man.
Just one tiny thing, I think the troll is way too sharp compare to the background as I can see every little detail with sharp edges. You can see the floor and the wall are not that clear, probably you are using textures for all these and I think it's good. You might want to consider tune the troll render a little bit.
Anyway, this is a great piece!

Thanks! You may be right. I am a big fan of sharpness...
I will keep that in mind for further renders...

Thanks a lot Nadine!
Most of my renders are poser based 3d meshes except the Troll...
My personal favorite in render quality is my Render Alexander here: [link]

Yeah I've seen Alex, he's been in my favorites for a while lol, great work! I work with poser too but end up doing tons of postwork and painting in photoshop after to get my pieces Love your stuff though!

Thanks Nadine.
It took me years to get my renders that realistic. I try to avoid postwork but pay for this with endless testrenders and correction before the final renders...

Ahh yeah I can see that, took me a long time too to get where I am now as well, but I kinda like the style I have now mixes of 3D and painting Definitely takes a long time to develope any style and level of competence or skill

to be honest, all the bumps and wrinkles in the skin look a bit too... deep is not the correct word... hm.
basically, to me the bump is a bit too exaggerated.
