really like how s/he's in focus, but the background is blurred. How did you manage to get that effect?

Thanks for the comments! It was partly just the depth of field when I took the photo; the background was blurry to begin with. To enhance it, I played with the colour balances before turning it to black and white. The snow leopard of course didn't have much in the way of colour, being black and white already. So adjusting the colour balances didn't affect the subject much. I just played with the sliders until the colours were not too distinct in the background. Then a little bit of tweaking the contrast. Unfortunately, this made some artifacts so that viewing it at 100% was not so sharp. So that's why you can't get the biggest prints of this one.
