Description I had a lot of fun thinking up this comic. It got me back to my roots, like when I was making MLP fan comics based on released episodes. Good times... you can find them deeper in my gallery here. As for this guy, there are 2 themes I wanted to get at- 1. No one ever addressed what carnivores in their universe eat, and 2. There is a LOT of fan content that ends up with these two smoochin one way or another. So much of that around. Sometimes life takes you in different directions.

So if you liked my comic-making here, then I have good news for you! I'm working on an original comic series called "Jubilation Strikes" with a published author. I might be biased, but I'm a total fan of it. If you hang around my page, I'll be sure to keep you up to date on its development through journals and a few submissions.

Just stumbled across this, I find it warped and hilarious.

I can't help imagining someone in the back room of that restaurant singing something from Sweeney Todd.

"It's priest, have a little priest..."

I imagine there's actually a place like this literally Tundratown and is one of Mr. Big's 'illegal' businesses. This is because the imitation-meats are all made from bugs and other poor-tasting substitutes that make chewing on cardboard tastier, even if it does fulfill predator nutrient requirements. Still, doesn't stop predators from having no choice except to eat synthetic food while all the prey continue getting to eat what they naturally would. Kind of one-sided in my opinion.Β

The part that makes serving real meat 'illegal' in Zootopia would be the restrictive definitions of "proper disposal of dead bodies", which basically only allows them to be cremated, buried in the ground, or used for medical studies. These definitions work nicely for us humans, but not so much for the predators in Zootopia, who have to rely on the manufacturers of their synthetic food. Or else they'll, you know, STARVE.Β

I don't think fish, fowl or reptiles are sentient, so there shouldn't be a problem with predators getting meat that isn't from mammals.

Demon242 In reply to neorenamon [2016-12-23 16:44:04 +0000 UTC]

Purely from what we see in the movie, there isn't any way to say either or; Zootopia could be a purely mammal metroplex and you can easily figure reptiles, avians, and aquatics would each have their own needs and unique city architecture given the differences in their physiology from mammals. Granted, there could be a fair reptile and aquatic population in Sahara Square and the underwater district we see hippos emerging from at the start of the movie, but we don't see any so we can't say.Β

It could very well be that those three species aren't sentient, but the possibility that they are allows for a ton of crossovers that make Zootopia's world and universe a lot more interesting, like imagining Zootopia is essentially somewhere in North America, Splatoon takes place in a submerged Japan, and the Star Fox series is either the future or just takes place on other planets in the same universe.Β

Since it's only one movie, I guess they can't answer every question at once. Like how mammals can have roughly the same level of intelligence regardless of the size of their brain. Still, they never showed a body of water large enough for any population of cetaceans (whales, dolphins, etc). They also don't show any bats, flying squirrels or any other aerial mammals. Maybe that will be answered in Zootopia 2 (if it doesn't fall to the Sucky Sequel Syndrome).

Lets hope so. A lot of movies lately having been coming down with SSS, but that'll hopefully just be a 2016 bug and we'll see much better movies in 2017.Β

I really hate how they skipped over what carnivores eat to stay healthy weight. I like the random crime-busting. Unexpected, but welcomed. I don't know why, but when I saw he rat chef I immediately thought of Ratatoullie.

Zootopia officially has Bug burgers
there is also a fish market in tundra town
so they eat fish and sea food too.
alternatively
in the show we see, doughnuts, cakes, pies and other pastries
as well as Ice cream, cookies, and bread
all of which include Eggs and Milk
meaning in the Zootopia world there are Farms
on these farms Cows are hired or enslaved to produce milk for dairy products
Ask yourself did you see any female bovines anywhere in the movie?

and Chickens are hired or enslaved to produce eggs
if in Zootopia only mammals are intelligent
then it might also be the case that birds are farmed for poultry meats.

Scientifically there are certain factors that are required to evolve intelligence
1. Bipedal
2. Hands with opposable thumb
3. warm blooded
4. does NOT hibernate
5. Land Animal

these 5 factors are the basics required for higher evolution
these factors also mean basically very few non-mammals
could have possibly evolved alongside Zootopian Mammals

there is also the possibility the entire historical evolution of Zootopia
being the result of a genetics uplift experiment that was successful.
