Description
The X-blade from Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. Made on commission for
It took roughly a month to make. Solid poplar with an mdf filigree. 75 1/4 inch long and weighs 15 pounds.
Here's the tutorial: quitefranklybuilds.blogspot.co…
Sorry for the repost, but I found a large tarp for a background and thought it would be better than cardboard. Plus the lighting is a bit better.

Amazing.. beautifullly detailed and amazing..
the Grill from the center has a beautiful lighting and with the added of metallic pain has completely brought a realistic blade look.
the handles cooperating with the yellow gold and the silver metallic has a well balance of communication.
the most facinating piece about this is the blade tip itself...
how it reflects both a violet contour mixing with the gold was soo amazing that it almost looked like the real effect from the video game itself.
The handmade charm is very cute and simple. but the idea of using a clay has it's draw back since it sometime can be abit muddy looking.
but overall I know it is the only source of income to make instead of using lazer cut technology.

Is it sharp? also is it sturdy enough to last several hard hits against a medium hard item. Can it stand up in a full out blow to blow duel with another wooden keyblade? last question is; how much would it cost for one because i want one yes please!

It is sharp. Probably not if you use the sword part. Same. Around $500.
It is also pretty top heavy, over 6 ft long.

Would it be possible to get the blade part reinforced or made of another material in order to make it more sturdy? If i have to fight another keyblader, i don't want my weapon to break on me

finaformsora In reply to darin1994 [2016-10-03 05:25:18 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure what you could use to reinforce that. It mainly wouldn't hold up because it's thin. So it would have to be metal unless youre fighting someone with a foam keyblade. Even wood on wood wouldn't be good

Would metal even be possible? How much would it cost? it would need some serious balancing in the back. maybe have the keyblades made hollow inside to try to move some of the weight towards the back. this is too cool!

finaformsora In reply to darin1994 [2016-10-03 16:43:55 +0000 UTC]
Probably not, at least by me right now. I was just saying it would take it being metal for it not to break

How much for a Kingdom Key replica? In that same quality, doesnt have to be anything heavy. I'm more for quality rather than material. Whether you use wood or whatever, if your taking commissions please email me at telfortsam@yahoo.com, the name is Sam T. I'm a collector and I have a high budget. Interested in your craftsmanship. I'm here within the U.S. so shipping won't be a pain. Let me know.

You hold it where the two guards merge together, like in the game. It's too heavy to actually carry around, but I made it for collecting purposes

Well you hold it by by the middle between the handles, the gold part. I was barely able to keep it up with one arm, not to mention having to use both to lift up to that point. It really only weighs 15 pounds, but it's so top heavy because of the design that it's hard to hold up. Maybe if I were a fisher I could hold it better lol.
In the games, the character holds it above his head with his arm at a 90 degree angle which would make it a little easier to hold, but in the games keyblades are also somewhat magical and probably made of some ethereal material that's lightweight. I mainly made it as a collector's piece for the buyer to hang on the wall, but if they wanted to train the hell out of their arms to take it to a con it would be impressive.

Alright, I guess...? That's still no way to hold a sword-like object if you want to wield it effectively.

yeah...like I said.... it's from a game, it's top heavy, it IS able to be wielded though it's hard, and it's made to be hung on a wall for showcasing... If you have a problem with the design talk to squeenix.

I mean it's a creative weapon. You could wield most of the keyblades, but the x-blade is supposed to be a legendary weapon, so why would it be easy to carry. A powerful weapon needs a powerful wielder
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Idonataur In reply to finaformsora [2015-10-01 21:25:08 +0000 UTC]
Yes you technically could wield them, but they would be about as effective in combat as a metal girder. They falsely call them swords when they are really somewhere between axes and maces. Edge alignment is nearly impossible because of the hand guard being on both sides, not that there even IS an edge. On top of that, there's a bunch of unnecessary material all over the weapon that just gets in the way.

finaformsora In reply to Idonataur [2015-10-02 03:15:54 +0000 UTC]
what does a name have to do with the weapon besides itself? Have you ever held a keyblade before? You sound like that guy on youtube who tried to say the keyblade wouldn't work. Though it's called a keyblade it's used as a blunt weapon; you don't hit with the spiked side/teeth of the key, you hit with the backside. I have obviously made an held several keyblades and they all feel comfortable to hold and swing around as long as you're strong enough, like with a real club.
The unnecessary material IS just decoration based on the world it came from, but that doesn't mean it hinders the weapon. It just adds weight which takes us back to the strength of the user. You also have to look at the fighting styles of the character in the game to better understand some of the designs. The kingdom key for example is used by sora and mickey, one uses two hand (or one and a half hand) grip and the other uses mainly one hand. This keyblade is good for either style because it has more space between the handle and the guard. For two-hand grip, you grab the handle from each side of the guard, and for one handed you grab it from outside the guard, leaving it between your forearm and body. It's very comfortable, and with the teeth facing up in the air like they should be to hit someone with the blunt end, it feel very balanced. However for some reason, criticizers think the teeth go down which makes it feel unbalanced and confused.
I've had this debate several times. It's really getting old to explain it to people. Sure they could have used a different name, but why does it matter if it's creative and catchy for a game.

Okay, then if you just use the back, why is it any better than swinging around a metal pole? In fact, I think a metal pole would be BETTER because it wouldn't have all those decorations that WOULD GET IN THE WAY getting in the way.

finaformsora In reply to Idonataur [2015-10-02 14:59:32 +0000 UTC]
because it looks good. It's based off of a key, it looks like a key alright, so they made the first design decide how they were going to use it. You dont want to damage the teeth on a key or you can't use it to unlock anything. If you want a pole, go get a struggle bat and be happy. There is literally no reason to be upset at the keyblade's design. It's a key, that acts as a club, that you swing like a blade.
I'm not saying this would be as effective as a real weapon, or against one, my only point here is that it can be used as used successfully and with ease. If you're not strong enough to lift and use it, then stop complaining. Because guess what kid, IT'S A VIDEO GAME WEAPON. It could be a standing fan with the special power to fucking oscillate on a high setting and it wouldn't fucking matter. You're obviously not fan of kingdom hearts or apparently video games in general so why dont you just stop.

Just because it's a video game weapon doesn't mean it can't be designed the way someone would design a real one. If it's supposed to be some special weapon that does something that others can't, they should make it look that way, and not like something that isn't even ass well designed as the 440 stainless steel swords in my basement that costed less than a hundred dollars. I may not be a fan of Kingdom Hearts, but who says I don't like video games? I just have a problem with people saying that a poorly designed weapon is the "greatest blade in the world" or whatever.

Oh wow you have REAL sword??? I'm so impressed!!wowwowowow I've never said it was the greatest, i've said it's interesting and creative. It's a special weapon because it's a combination of two people's hearts into one, so two keyblades, and a long blade on the end because it's the original keyblade. Even if you apparently like video games, you obviously have a problem understanding that it's fiction and has no effect on your life.

The point of stories IS to have an effect on your life. Art is supposed to make the viewer feel something, whatever that feeling is. Just because something is interesting and creative doesn't mean it can't be logically judged and criticized.

Same goes for your blade. You judged this one, i judged that one. sure yours is interesting and creative, but it's a design with many flaws.

Yes, but I can still argue for mine with logic and reason instead of magic. And mine is still better than a metal pole or a 440 stainless steel sword (which is bad, by the way. Stainless steel is bad. I was comparing the Keyblade to a bad thing). The same cannot be said for any Keyblade.

There's no logic in launching parts of dust from your own weapon even if the technology was there to make it fire like a rifle without burning your hand of and leaving you without the sensation of touch. It's not even a good design without that. The keyblade is a club. you hit things with it. It's top heavy which means more force from the weight when you swing it. All you have to do is be moderately strong to use it. As I said before, I've made several and I always test them out and only the x-blade has been a problem because of the weight. It doesn't weigh itself down or bend. It's a perfectly good blade. You just can't admit you're wrong and shouldn't have said anything in the first place. But I know you'll still reply because you're a sore loser.

Don't start insulting me personally. We're having a calm and logical debate here. I'm just trying to understand your side of the debate and defend my own. Why is there no logic to it? Maybe there's some internal cooling system to keep it from burning you. Maybe after the battle's over, you go back over the battlefield and just magnetically drag the liquid dust back into the hilt. The X Blade is still weird, because if you hold it from the back, the blade comes out at a really strange angle, and you have to swing further to get the effects of a regular sword.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
finaformsora In reply to Idonataur [2015-10-02 20:33:44 +0000 UTC]
It's not really that weird of an angle. It's just like a really long sword, and if you dont catch them with the blade, you hit them with the blunt keys. I will say that the filigree is a bit much, but if it breaks off while scraping/cutting the person then it's useful. And again, if you're strong enough to swing it, it doesnt even really matter how it hits you, it's gonna hurt.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Idonataur In reply to finaformsora [2015-10-02 20:38:58 +0000 UTC]
Okay, that is a fair enough point. I still think it would just be better with one grip and one finger guard. Also, strength isn't the only factor. You would also have to consider the centripetal force, and the fact that the character either has to be very heavy or very rooted into the ground to not get swung along with the weapon.
