"Brandi, you said it yourself when Thunderbird got hurt. We should not try to take on any major criminals without backup."

"I know Poly, so get me that backup."

"Everyone is tied up with the firefights around the city. I'll send help as soon as I can, but Do Not engage until then!"

Brandi frowned, "all right. I'll hold back until help arrives."

"I know you. As soon as you think a bystander is going to get hurt, you will rush right in."

"Ya got me there," Brandi smirked. "I won't stand by and let someone get hurt if I can help it. It's part of the job description. But I promise to not do anything too stupid before backup arrives."

The street had already been blocked off and evacuated by the police. A number of cars were abandoned on the street, one in flames. A couple craters marked where explosions had gone off. FireBrandi took the scene in, trying to calculate the best approach to the bank, when the front of the building exploded out.

Kim Paler stepped out of the ruined wall with what looked like a safe deposit box strapped to the back of her cybernetic leg pack. Her oversized rifle in hand. Flanking her were two medium sized spiderbots, each about four feet tall. Stepping out onto the street, the bots opened machingun fire at several of the cars, and the buildings across the way. Glass shattered, and screens rang out as the spectators on the upper floors dove for cover. That is when her armor's proximity sensor went off.

Two of her mechanical legs immediately moved to lock on the possible threat. Before she could spot the target there was a flash of heat, and the spiderbot on her left exploded in a spray of legs and molten metal. Kim dove for cover as the second bot was reduced to slag.

FireBrandi started dodging the blaster fire from Kim's legs. Kim had a lot of firepower, and not being invulnerable this would be a short fight without cover. Also there were likely people still watching from the illusory safety of the upper floor windows. Best to keep the firefight on ground level.

"Hey matchstick. Come to let me finish gutting you?"

With a whir and click, the cybernetic legs changed fire mode. Several grenades flew out in a spread. FireBrandi flew in, under the shots. The grenades blew up behind her, battering her with the concussive force. The lethal shrapnel was vaporized by the aura of heat Brandi surrounded herself in.

"Hey crabs. Getting back to your two bit thug roots? Oh sorry, that is all you ever were. A thug who got her hands on big kid toys."

Brandi threw a couple fire blasts, that Kim easily side stepped. Kim retaliated with another spread of grenades. Brandi took cover, landing behind an abandoned car. Crouched down, she built up power for a concentrated blast. Kim switched back to energy blasts, the four legs laying down suppressive fire to keep Brandi pinned.

FireBrandi kept down, glowing with the built up power, waiting for an opening. Now! Brandi stood up, arms out in front of her, hands together. The stored energy shot out in a focused, laser like beam. With a blur, Kim sidestepped the blast. It hit a truck behind her, burning through the engine, before taking out part of the wall behind it.

"Damn it!" Brandi cursed. She threw a fireball this time. Again, the legs on Kim's armor glowed as the speed enhancements let her quickly get out of the way. The fireball detonated, engulfing everything within thirty feet. Kim was caught by the edge of the blast, getting some sparks from her armor's defensive shield, but little harm.

Kim leveled her large rifle at the car Brandi was using for cover. Muzzle flash lit up the street, as the car was shredded. FireBrandi flew out of there, staying low behind cover.

Brandi got an idea, "oh the city is not going to like this." She popped up, firing heat beams from each hand at the street. Blaster fire filled the air, but Brandi managed to dodge it all. She took cover once again.

Kim looked down, trying to figure out Brandi's plan with that maneuver. The street around her was now a bubbling semi-liquid. Even the asphalt under her was softening, her boots starting to sink in.

"Good luck trying to dodge now." Brandi said with a little triumph in her voice.

Kim chuckled. "Good move. I guess I'll have to stop toying with you now." Her cyber legs clicked with another change of offensive options. Two grenades were shot into the air, exploding high over Brandi's cover.

FireBrandi screamed and fell to the ground. All up her back and legs were in pain. She could see a piece of shrapnel sticking in her arm, and presumably more were in her back.

"I had these ceramic grenades made especially for you. Hope you like them." Kim fired off another volley.

Brandi gritted her teeth, and took off, getting out of there just before another rain of shrapnel. "Poly, please tell me back up is on the way." Flying around knee high, she kept out of sight, taking cover beneath a delivery truck.

Kim Paler kept alert, but there was no sight or sound of FireBrandi. Touching the side of her mask, she activated the thermographic overlay to her HUD. Brandi's trail was not hard to find. "I see youuu." And readied her weapons.
