Diamond and FireBrandi watched the abandoned factory. A large truck parked at the loading dock.

The energy trail is almost totally faded. If they've moved it from there then we are out of luck. You know, if it was a law that all warehoused and factories had to be torn down as soon as they were not in use then bad guys would have a lot more trouble finding places to hide.

True, but then we would have more hideouts in the sewers wouldn't we?

hmmm... yea, lets keep the factories. Any luck contacting some of the other heroes?

No. They are all either asleep, busy, or don't have any way that I know to contact them.

Too bad, we need a hero hotline in this city. Makes it easier for the next tidal wave, or when one of us could use some backup. Looks like we are on our own. See anything in there?

No, but I am hearing about 7 men inside standing guard. I hear the clatter of automatic weapons being held carelessly. They talk about how they have been promised super powers in exchange for good service, and they have to wait here until the 'thing' cools off in the vault. My guess is they put the device in a shielded vault until the energy emissions fade away, then move it undetectably to a more permanent location.

They moved in. There was one guard by the door. Diamond opened the door reached in and pulled him out so swiftly he did not have time to scream. They left him, his gun folded in half, unconscious just outside. Slipping in they found the rest gathered in front of large doors that led deeper into the factory. These were not trained soldiers or armored troops, just hired thugs.

Time for things to get noisy

With that flames sprang up, wrapping FireBrandi in a burning aura. One of the guards noticed and cried out. FireBrandi flew up and charged in, Diamond quickly following. A spray of bullets came at them, bouncing off of Diamond's diamond hard skin. She glanced at Brandi and saw the bullets aimed at her vaporizing in her aura.

Rings of fire sprang up around each guard. Hot enough to keep them in place, but no problem for Diamond. She easily took down each one without doing too much damage to them. Unconscious and their weapons destroyed the two heroes left the guards where they lay. Going through the doors they found an office area with many dust covered desks. At the back was a shining new metal vault, the kind you would find in a major bank.

They approached cautiously, then the vault door slowly opens. Stepping out was a tall, powerfully built woman with long dark hair in what appeared to be dress pants, shirt and tie that were too small for her. The air fairly crackled around her with the energy she was giving off.

Looks like I wasn't careful enough in making sure I couldn't be tracked. I'll just have to use the back up plan then, once I take care of you two that is. But where are my manners? I should introduce myself first. I'm Dr. Andrea Van, researcher on Project Ultra and soon master of this world. Now that I've made myself even more powerful than Ultrawoman I suppose I should come up with an appropriate 'villain' name. One that will look good in the headlines announcing how I killed you two. Now lets see what real power can do.

FireBrandi started peppering the supercharged scientists with fireballs. Hitting high and low as Dr. Van casually walked forward. Diamond concentrated on her cyber skin. Razor sharp spikes formed on her knuckles and fingertips. If what this woman said was true then this is no time to hold back. With fluid grace she charges in. Strikes to the face, abdomen, ribs, spinning kick to the head as if it was all one dance move. Sparks fly from the impact, but with no discernable effect. Dr. Van stands there smiling at the effort the two heroes put on. FireBrandi switches to a continuous jet of flame from behind as Diamond works from the front. Diamond switches to strike nerve clusters, joints, and other weak points with strength enough to punch through a brick wall, still to no effect.

FireBrandi builds up a concentrated shot, and the super heated air whistles as an almost laser like blast strikes Dr. Van in the face. The blast was hot enough to melt a steel beam. Van winced a bit at that one.

That actually stung. Playtime is over children, time for you to see what true power is.

With one hand she casually picked up a desk and flung it aside. The desk slammed into FireBrandi, driving them both against the wall, shattering on impact.

One firebug squashed, now to stuff you in the recycle bin.

Dr. Van threw a fierce punch at Diamond, aiming to crush her skull. Diamond dodged and took hold of her wrist. She knew several dozen moves to take the strength of an opponents punch and use it against them. With a twist and a shift in stance Dr. Van slammed face down into the floor hard.

Diamond's legs are an incredible work of engineering. Strong enough to lift a tank. And fast enough to run at over 60 mph. That is nearly ten running steps a second. Or in this case, stomping on the back of Van's head ten times a second, cracking the stone floor with her face.

From the shattered furniture Diamond heard a strange electronic humming. She looked over to see Brandi using her healing acceleration device. Invaluable to a non-invulnerable hero.

Dr. Van slammed her hand down on the ground, shaking it enough to throw Diamond off balance for a second. Long enough for Van to grab her leg and throw her across the room. Van stood, her face showing her anger.

Lets see you try your judo tricks on this!

Bright red beams shot from her eyes striking Diamond, smashing her against the wall. Internal sensors flashed alerts, warning Diamond of the damage she was taking, though she was too stunned by the attack to move. Van advanced for the kill only to be interrupted. FireBrandi gave a yell as she flew in, holding a sword made of fire, driving it straight into Van's eyes. Van stepped back in pain. In her rage her hand shot out and managed to grab FireBrandi by the throat. FireBrandi struggled to breath, hitting the wrist holding her, to no avail. The flame sword flickered and faded out, Brandi went limp in Van's outstretched hand.

Diamond, once again on her feet, saw Brandi and her eyes went wide. She looked from Brandi to Van and back, then ran as fast as she could from the room.

Hah! Coward! Your neck will be the next I break, now that the firebug is no more.
