Dr. Andrea Van, after mocking Diamond, turned her attention back to FireBrandi.

Ah, so you are still awake I see. Not for long.

But she noticed something odd. She had thought FireBrandi was awake because she could see the glow of her eyes again, but there was something different about them. Then she realized, Brandi's eyes were still closed. They are glowing so brightly now they shine through her eyelids.

Van wondered at that for a moment before realization struck. She tried to drop Brandi and get away but it was too late.

The air turned to plasma and boiled forth in a shockwave. Whatever this wall touched did not burn. It did not have time to burn, instead instantly becoming ash carried forward on the crest of this wave. The walls disintegrated as it passed over them, the now exposed metal pipes boiled. The massive vault, built to withstand any explosion, screeched as the heavy alloy door buckled and sagged, fusing with the floor. The solid stone floor glowed, ripples and waves formed as it was blasted by hot wind. An ever expanding sphere of destruction engulfed the building with FireBrandi floating in the center.

The shockwave threw Dr. Van back, skipping across the semi-molten floor until she finally came to rest. Struggling to sit up she saw the third degree burns on her arms, felt the blisters on her face. Nearly all the incredible power she had channeled into herself in preparation to fight the heroes had been used up in preventing her being turned to ash. She saw FireBrandi fall to the ground unconscious. Hate and panic mixed as she struggled to rise, to find something with which to kill Brandi before she woke again, but her view was cut off by a shining metallic knee pressing into her chest.

Diamond had detected the power building up in FireBrandi. She barely managed to get all the unconscious thugs and herself to safety before the factory disappeared in a ball of white heat.

Not a coward, just calculating where you were going to land from that blast.

A metal fist like a pile driver came down. Dr. Van's teeth shattered, her jaw fractured, as she took a nice long nap.

When the police and fire department arrived Diamond turned all of the captives over to them. She explained the situation to them, leaving out some parts like how she hacked the police computers. Steam covered the area as the fire fighters pumped water into the blasted remains of the building. When it was cool enough for her to enter (though still too hot for normal people) she went back in. She found Brandi sitting in front of the remains of the vault, though it now looked more like a misshapen metal cave.

Hey girl, glad to see you are all right. Did we get them?

Yes, the police have them all in custody now. (glancing at the vault) Though I don't think the government will be too happy their multi-million dollar project has been reduced to a lump of metal.

Brandi looks concerned

Better than another Ultrawoman with an army of Ultragoons... You don't think they'll try to make me pay for it, do you? I don't think I can ask for a raise on my second day on the job.

Oh I don't think they will say anything.

Good. Do you think there might have been more to this? I doubt they would let a psycho work on such a project. Could there have been someone else pulling the strings, possibly mentally influencing her?

Diamond took a quick look around the barren, blasted landscape

If you can find any clues laying around here feel free to follow up on them. Somehow I don't think there will be much to find.

Brandi smirked guiltily

Only one thing to do then. Find an all night Mexican restaurant, I'm hungry!

AWesome!!

So her powers werent really "better" than ultrawoman I take? she needed some kind of refill aparently.

I really liked this quote from diamond

"Not a coward, just calculating where you were going to land from that blast. " She was really bad ass there! xD

Course matter to ash transformation bomb Brandi didnยดt look particularly weak herself

Glad you liked it.

Yea, the human physiology does not hold the energy Ultrawoman has very well. She could duplicate it but her batteries would drain pretty quickly.

Thanks Teri, had fun writing it. Especially liked having Nikki going pile-driver on Van's head.

A hero FireBrandi used to team up with back in Paragon City used to call her his 'nuclear summer'

you just got to remember to pick her up after the fight is over. She tends to end the fights face down.

hotrod5 In reply to FireBrandi [2010-02-22 14:41:09 +0000 UTC]

Will do but does FireBrandi cool down immediately or do you have to wait awhile for her to cool down to pick her up?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

FireBrandi In reply to hotrod5 [2010-02-22 14:46:25 +0000 UTC]

She cools off right away. The area around her might be a bit toasty for a while depending on what she was doing.

I make sure to have the fire dept. or a hero who can cool down the place or who can take the heat on hand.

What the heck was that? Brandi goes boom every time she's knocked out?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

FireBrandi In reply to vince3 [2010-02-22 11:46:17 +0000 UTC]

naaa, she was still awake. She knew the only chance she had was to play dead and build up a lot of power.

if she went boom every time she was knocked out they would have forced her to live in the desert a long time ago.

Levia-the-Dragon [2010-02-22 08:51:45 +0000 UTC]

Interesting overload moment, I guess that's the burden every elemental has to deal with if they don't constantly keep their powers in check.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

FireBrandi In reply to Levia-the-Dragon [2010-02-22 11:55:17 +0000 UTC]

Something like this is not a matter of keeping your power in check. FireBrandi has to build up for something like this. Anyone strong enough to do this by simply loosing control, that would be very scary to face

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Levia-the-Dragon In reply to FireBrandi [2010-02-22 12:12:29 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh, so that's how it works, I've got someone that has to consciously break a lot of barriers to get to that kind of state, but when she gets there...

Yep, I was hoping those Ultrawoman-like powers were temporary. I felt a Nova blast coming on too.

It was a very fun read though. I enjoyed the way things boiled down in the end.

FireBrandi In reply to cele7110 [2010-02-22 11:49:02 +0000 UTC]

Thanks

Oh those powers were going to be temporary even if Ultrawoman had to make sure Dr Van was temporary.

Once Ultrawoman catches wind of this, Dr. Van's life is likely to be very much temporary.

FireBrandi In reply to Shuma-Gorath [2010-02-22 22:46:49 +0000 UTC]

the building wasn't the government's. Only the multi-million dollar machine that was hidden inside. They must have a few spares laying around right?... right??
