Description
The concept on which I based the Z-Brush model. Originally I was intending to build a clay Marquette, but I thought it would most likely drive me insane sculpting all those limbs.Related content

Now that's someone who'd actually survive underwater. Beauty in function. Amazeballs.

Oh my gosh! Amazing!
I love everything about it! I'd been wanting to do something like this, a non-human looking mermaid, but it's be nowhere near as awesome as this! I love the way the head is shaped, and her face and eyes! It's just awesome!

I love how alien it looks, rather than just being a girl with a fish tail.

Ah Ha!
Finally, a mermaid with gills! I've always wondered how they got oxygen into their bodies!
I also love the octopus tail - I have a thing for the more unusual tails out there, there are more things in the deep than fish to use for inspiration.
I also love how she isn't a human-aquatic animal hybrid. She looks completely unique, and perfectly at home in the environment you've drawn.

RRRigghhht because "The Little Mermaid"'s Ursula wasn't anything like this and therefoe this is the first ever concept of a a mermaid that is something other than half fish....

I've just read a comment where someone has said that the creature isn't a mermaid because it doesn't have a fish tail.
Mermaid is from the Old English words 'mere' (meaning sea) and 'maid' (meaning girl/young woman). So, as long as there is a female creature of the sea, that looks reasonably maid-ish, I don't see the problem with the type of tail.
Personally, I love to see some individuality in artwork! Seeing a variant of the same image over and over gets tiresome! Keep the unique coming! Perhaps a male version, or even a baby one! I'd love to see what a little one of these looks like!
Keep up the great work!
