Description
When riding the Spirit Train underwater, you can't help but notice that there isn't really a bottom. Anything could be down there...This is for the #SpiritTracks-FC 's march contest~ There were a number of topics, and I picked the underwater one, even though I generally dislike water.
I hate bubbles now. 8C
There were going to be like, 100x the bubbles in this picture leading your eye down the picture, but I had to piece it together in Paint because the file was too big for Open Canvas.
...
I was kidding about hating bubbles. Mostly. xD
This was fun to work on, really. Even if it was a pain without Photoshop. |D;;;

I really love tall images, they really make use of the "computer as a viewing method" idea and it works so well. You really did a great job with the water effects, as they can be a total bitch. Really, who wants to draw underwater scenes? (I am pretty sure the answer is nobody.) I completely adore the contrast of the two parts of the piece, the upper half is quirky and whimsical while the bottom is super mysterious and intriguing.
One thing that distracted me is the contrast between the upper and lower half where the true black and the murky black meet. You do a great job of leading the eye down the bubbles to the train to the lower depths (and subsequently to the sword) but the seam is a bit of a jolt out of the picture's emotions. I don't blame you, though, stitching in paint is a bigger bitch than painting water.
This piece is really focused and I like that, but at the bottom you highlight not only the master sword, but the solidified Ganon-particulate-whatever. Ideally it makes for a classic view, but if you only chose to highlight the Master Sword and make the statue-rock-nonsense only something that the light caught on, it would be more like something only some people would see. And the people who did see it would feel very clever. Not that it would change too dramatically, but the change in the lighting focus would make the lower image as dynamic as the upper. The shift in lighting makes it seem more mysterious than symbolic, which is a personal preference on my part.
I really really love how the upper image is kind of careless, with the subject somewhat to the side and then you scroll down and BAM center-stage, Big Important Thing. The color choice for the lower part is really perfect, it reminds me of when I had an obsession with deep-sea animals in the murky depths. I also totally dig the concept of what other people suggested, where the denizens of the PH/ST really have NO idea what is beyond the dark abyss below their trains. Overall I am totally just lovin' this.

Wow. This seems so obvious now. Of course, the series seems to imply that "New Hyrule" is a fair distance away from the original one, so that wouldn't be the site where the Master Sword was left. Regardless, this piece really hits on the fact that ST Link and Zelda really know very little about their heritage.
