Description
For The Far Wild .~
Legend spoke of an underground hollow that lies very deep, not even for ten years the dwarfkin could reach digging. There were naught but ash and fire. The elementals called it 'The Red Forest', a grove not fond of tree and life but of rock and metal. Story described of solid rocks that lived, and grew from the ceiling like tree branches. From afar, they made a huge canopy bathed in reddish ambient. Hence the name.

This is much like the supposedly inhospitable vents that are being documented harboring micro life on the ocean floor.
Although this would be terrifying, as a human, as a creature or being that truly could withstand itβs molten hazards I would think that this would steal my breath away- for more than just because itβs hot and dry! XD This is just beautiful.

Those orange balls remind me of a part in Titan A.E. (the movie), I don't know if you've seen it but it's similar to the ones in this art. Anyways this is exceptional!

I had a a rather similar concept once but heck those snakelike tubes and this cage in the middle make the general idea perfect quite cool !

Oh, this was done for a card art, so typically they have specific card description, so I drew freely based on the concept. Other than that, I don't have any specific inspiration for it though, but plenty of reference like fires, lava and stuff.

That is a brilliant concept, and well illustrated too the bubbly growths are very interesting, in one way, they look organic, in another way, they look like they are made of a material too hot to be alive...really cool

really nice, I totally adore the organic, egg-like forms and snake like veins (I presume).
Maybe if you add more details to the foreground, such as :
you describe these forms as living rocks, well some reflections would be sweet. More like some resin/hydrocarbon look.

firedudewraith In reply to astarot [2008-06-24 22:43:01 +0000 UTC]
thanks for your comment, i was thinking originally the living rock would look and feel somewhat like the bark of tree. something hard. I must say there are certain visual flaws that I was unable to suggest the idea convincingly, like you said, from the lack of details.
the resin feel would give a different feel to what I have in mind originally, and it might work better. I'll keep it in mind.

Very well done, this is a impressive fire background. One can almost envision what the rest of the area is like around the landscape.
