Scar was a... special case. Collateral, you may say. Born as a prince to the Dusklands, Scar- then Askari- was gifted to the Pridelands in desperate exchange for hunting and healing assistance during a mysterious illness. The freshly born cub was raised alongside his adopted brother, Mufasa. Though he would never be King of the Dusklands, he would be safe, well fed, and happy. He knew the truth of his parentage in later childhood, which brought about intense feelings of envy of his 'brother'. He was supposed to be King... But the pride he was supposed to be King to, unfortunately, fell despite the aid.
Askari was granted many privileges, including the right to man his own royal guard. Of course, he would never be King of the Pridelands... Or so they thought.
Askari's pride treated him well enough, though he heard quite a few awkward and prying questions about his heritage. What about your parents? Aren't you sad you're stuck here? Do you really belong here? These annoyances caused Askari to eventually isolate himself from the Pride. He was different, and it was annoying
