That is such a cool idea! I've seen hundreds of coiled vases, and not a one like this. I love it

To be honest I am unfamiliar with many pottery terms. I'm just starting off and there has been no one with much experience around to teach me. I've just finished my 2nd semester of ceramics but we haven't reached the potters wheel yet.
If you have any critiques about what I've done so far I would really appreciate hearing them.

oh hey, its coil-built.

yeah... I thought it was a thrown piece.

I really love the alternating glazes...

as for advice?

I cant really advise you on coil building, it looks like you've got it down.

When you do begin wheel throwing, just remember to move slowly.

the most important thing is to move slowly
the other most important thing is to keep the piece wet
the other other most important thing is to not let your piece get to wet (esp on the inside in the bottom)
and finally the most important thing is to move slowly and always keep your arms anchored so they dont warp your form!

I not even sure that peice could be replicated on the potters wheel, unless the main structure was lined with coils. But that kind of defeats the point of a coil pot huh?

Thank you for the pointers!
Most of those ring a bell for mistakes I've made in the past.
The configuration of the wheel at school makes it difficult to keep my forarm anchored it's kind of awkward.
Between my art classes I have other subjects to go to. (Our periods are about 45 minutes long) Its funny though, very frequantly I am running around all day with clay splatters on my shoes and pants.

Try keeping your arm in place by setting it firmly on your knee. To get this right, adjust your chair's height by using round batts or anything else sturdy and available.
And by the way, tho this tip is valuable, I am terrible on the wheel. I hand build everything lol.

Hive was just hand built coils.
I was doing a whole bunch of submissions at the same time and some got mixed up.
As a result the description of the piece was wrong for a time.

I do adore the potters wheel, but I've had no formal training.
(The wheel I use is older and the seat is rusted and doesn't move as well.) But I appreciate the tip! And the comment for that matter.
Thank you!

you could replicate this piece by throwing two pieces on the wheel and carving rounded bands on them, then you would warp the two shapes while they were still moderately wet, slip the edges, and press the two pieces into one pot.

about the splatters? such is life

Ambitious, but not so efficient ne?
I just need to stop wearing black to art class...

I wanna shave my head, wear nothing but a loincloth, and throw pots somewhere in a monestary using only a stickwheel.

Go for it, Just hope orange is your color.
Computer Engineering, that strikes me as a bit out of character.
Well until 4 months ago I was going into the medical field. So I guess not.

I originally had a human heart in mind, but it became
something different, the glaze didn't turn out as I had hoped but its a decent piece. ~_~
