Description
An illustrated piece of a conversation with . It really made me laugh and so I had to draw it.This piece doubles as a sort of apology to Vlad--while he's not my favorite character in the series, I still think he's funny and doesn't deserve the ridiculous warping of his character that the fanbrats seem so desperate to inflict on him.
Poor Vlad! Sit and have cookies with me. But the minute you start any of the megalomaniacal nonsense, it's back to Wisconsin for you, mister.

Bravo, Bravo!
Vlad is one of my favorite characters to write because I love his personality in the show. His ORIGINAL personality. I just hate it when people write Danny/Vlad... *shudders*. One, that's totally SICK!! Two, it's completely wrong. Those two are straight. They are enemies. Vlad is completely devoted to Maddie. And nothing in the forseable future will be able to change that.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. Out of respect to Butch Hartman, no one should destroy his characters. As an author (a budding one, but still) I would be boiling in this sort of situation. on fanbrats.
... can I give Vlad some hot cocoa, too?

You'd have to ask him, but he strikes me as the sort who'd like cocoa.
I abhor when people disrespect other people's characters and try to give them warped personalities just because they don't like the way the canon's going. If they want to do that, they should write or draw their own stories with their own characters. Preferably, on their own island where they will no longer bother nice people with their nonsense. *nods.*

Thanks for the explanation. Brr, reading the example you gave of a fanbrat, I entirely agree it is really disrespectful to write something like that.
Still, if someone is writing a one-shot to show that even Vlad has a good side in his heart would that deserve the term 'fanbrat'? If so, then I could fall into that category.

Barring episodes like "Kindred Spirits" (in which Vlad displays that he's been cheating and stealing to get his wealth, all to amass a war chest to use against Jack to steal Maddie from him, thus proving that he stooped very low to attain what he thinks is vengeance), I can see how Vlad might feel he is a victim. As Vlad Plasmius, he is very evil. But as Vlad Masters, he at times can be a rather sympathetic villain. I mean, if you look at it, here's Vlad, this guy who worked with a friend and had a crush on a girl. Then, due to carelessness, he was horribly disfigured, turned into a half-ghost, and his friend married the girl he loved. Years later, Jack shows up at the reunion, still honeymooning with Maddie, still head over heels in love with her, and with two beautiful children that Vlad probably thinks should have been his. That's a lot for one guy to handle.
Still, that's no excuse to steal, cheat and attempt murder. *chuckles.* Not cool, Vlad. Maybe a twelve-step?
"Fanbrat" is a word I use to poke fun at people who I think disrespect the characters I love and the creators, like Mr. Hartman, who I truly admire. It's not one of those weird established internet terms like "troll" or "lurker" or something like that. At least, I don't think it is...
My point is that the characters were created with certain personalities by their creators. When that happened, they came to life and a story was born. Writing the characters acting in a way they wouldn't normally act, or saying or doing things they wouldn't normally do, just because the ficwriter (or fanartist) doesn't like the way canon's written or they just think they can do a better job than the actual creator--that in my opinion is disrespectful. It doesn't mean one shouldn't explore humanity or feelings in the characters. As a blatant example, writing that Sam wears pink and is a cheerleader isn't Sam. Writing Tucker being nasty to Danny and Sam isn't Tucker. That's not how they behave, and we shouldn't make them do things they wouldn't do just as we wouldn't want to be forced to do something we don't believe in.
Does that help?

Wow, that is a very detailed and helpful explanation. Thank you!
The main reason I wanted to write this one-shot was the way in how Vlad was portrayed so differently in The Ultimate Enemy. When Danny started to live in his mansion Vlad could have taken advantage of Danny's sadness and emotionally weakened state (for example trying to let him join his side) but he didn't. I got the feeling that Vlad genuinely cared for Danny looking at his expression when they stood outside. Even so much that he was willing to take away Danny's ghost powers (although I never really realized how that tied in with his emotions) so he wouldn't feel any pain and emotion anymore.
Vlad was so different then we saw in other episodes. But maybe that was because his obsession (Maddie) and his hate (Jack) had both died. Later, in the future we get a glimpse of a broken Vlad who really feels sorry for the evil he has done in the past. (I especially loved the moment when Danny said: "Maybe that is all we need, a second chance" I can't especially remember his exact words. Although I douybt it, but maybe there will be an future episode in which Danny gives Vlad 'that second chance')
Because how Vlad was portrayed in that episode I never really got rid of the feeling to write a story about his (possible) good side. I don't want to warp Vlad's character in something new but I just wanted to give it a try to show Vlad in a slightly different way without going overboard. Sorry for the long text, but I always like it to talk about the series.

No, I'm glad to have a discussion in proper English with actual logical speculation, and for that I thank you.
I must agree with how Vlad ended in his sad state in TUE. The objects of his rage and his obsession were both gone, and he's spent his entire life driven by desire and revenge. When they were gone, there was simply nothing left for him, and I can't imagine what it's like to be aware of that.
Oh, wait, yes I can--a murderous ghost half terrorizing Amity Park for ten years...*chuckles.*
I don't doubt there is possible good in Vlad just as there is in most creatures, just as a sword or a gun is neither good nor evil but can be turned to either purpose given the circumstance. I don't see how a story about Vlad being less than evil, if not entirely good, would be out of character if handled carefully. Hartman himself tempers Vlad's evil with goofy humor and slapstick antics, and he knows best, in my opinion.

I know. I don't know where people get that idea in the first place, being that he's constantly reiterating that he's jealous of Jack and obsessed with Maddie, for one thing. *rolls eyes at fanbrats* Come on people!

They got the idea because they love pairing up enemies. After all, Danny and Vlad MUST REALLY be fighting because they have feelings for one another, right? X(

*chuckles.* Like I say, sometimes it's NOT a love/hate relationship. Sometimes it's just a hate relationship!
And like I learned in screenwriting class, people like to pair up enemies because of the huge angst potential in such a pairing. But it's easy to write angst because angst is a very universal emotion. Almost everyone feels deeply angsty at some point in their lives, especially in their teen years. It's no big to draw on something so accessible. So I'm not quite as impressed with angsty writing and art as I am with something that was comedic or action-oriented. I want to tell these emo kids, write something funny--then I'll be impressed.

Angst is fun when it's written well, but just as our lives are not comprised primarily of angst, so too our fanwork should not be.
If I had any brains left to spill out! *chuckles.* I like that.

I'm not a fan of his "kill Jack/marry Maddie/brainwash Danny" policy, but no one deserves to be written or drawn as a creepy, sadistic pedophile just because some snarky fanbrat thinks it's "hot". Brr. *shudders* Vlad's not that kind of evil--he's the evil that comes from his own megalomaniacal tendencies and his obsession with Danny's mom.

"Fanbrats" (or sometimes "ficbrats") are those wonderfully atrocious people who twist canon into unrecognizability, abuse the characters horribly, and think that not only is it perfectly okay, but that it is their divine right to act so terribly. *snorts and chuckles.* If there's one thing I can't stand, it's disrespect.
