Description Luca Fang Vulpe
One of trio assassins. He is the mastermind in the team.
A sword master, one of the best in his clan. The fastest on the team in close range combat. Has cool personality, but also very stubborn. Like the rest of his clan, he has ability to control fire. His clan is one of an ancient fire clan, after all~
He can slice bullets with his swords. His fire has really great impact, that's why he trained with swords to minimized the damages around him. Assassination with swords is more quite , quicker, and less impact anyway~ But some battle cannot avoided for him to use his full power.
When on a mission, he always carry 4 swords, two of them are katana. In his shoes, there are hidden daggers. The glove he wears marked with his clan symbol, The fire wolf.

Other Trio Assassins:

I used Elektra pose reference for this one to learn better proportion. Dealing with multiple lighting and shadows are confusing TT_TT

Please give me some comments or critiques to help me improve~

great colours and atmosphere I especially love how you did the jacket, the leather is really impressive! for improvement, I think his expression looks a bit forced - since there's so much movement going on around him, having one eye closed seems too stiff and out of place. also, having a glint of the orange fire reflected in his open eye would have been a nice touch. otherwise, keep it up!

Hello! ^_^
I really like the work you've done here. The composition makes me feel that I'm watching a book cover! Plus the back story is very interresting,  the picture gives the feel of a strong firebender And yeah multiple lighting can be very confusing, I feel you.  Fire is a tricky element since she's not only creates a "light source" but a bouncing light as well. What a suggest you for start, is to use a multiply layer. You could create a new layer above the one with the colors, then choose a shadow color to fill in the layer and then set it to multiply. Then you could start erassing the parts that are geting hited by the light and set an other layer to overlay to adjust the light color. I hope I'm not geting too confusing here. I'm sure with lots of practice and experience you will be able to deal with any kind of light source As for the fire here are some very useful tutorials fav.me/d15oalx and grypwolf.tumblr.com/post/95472… .
Hope you find these useful, keep up the great work

I see your still in the experimental stage and tweaking through drawing fire. And thats good that your finding your own way of drawing fire. I also like the back story of the character and how you put everything together. Although the drawing looks 2D to me. I cant seem to find the depth of the picture. But i am sure your still experimenting with stuff here so i believe you will get it right when the time comes. Nice work!! ^^

Astarsia [2015-05-31 09:12:31 +0000 UTC]

Hi there!
Great back story.

regarding your work, I guess for the level of skill you're showing, i'd really like to just focus on talking about the reflections of the fire.

With leather, reflections are more dull. however, i'd really like to explain a little about blending. I like that you're trying to show that the fire IS reflecting onto the clothing, but the edges of the reflection are a little harsh. Try using a lighter brush opacity and working up a blending method.. you can use an eye dropping tool to pick up part of the colour and keep blending that way. And also be mindful of the whiter highlights. Since the fire isn't very white, you don't want to over exaggerate any lighting that isn't really there. And if you look at fire, and how it reflects onto a person -  you can see that away from the fire (and without an alternate light source) an object or subject will have little to no lighting at all. So consider making use of darker values of the colours you use. Don't be afraid of blending very dark with very light. And i know its hard with fabric to understand the use of light and dark values with folds and gathered textures. I'd really recommend studying a little bit of how light sources affect the way light is cast onto folded/gathered textiles, just to get a general idea when you see a bent arm with leather etc. The stock gallery here on deviant art has plenty to use as a reference. So I really do recommend using references to get some kind of idea there.

In the mean time, I would like to encourage you that your anatomy looks sound and great to look at. You're doing great. Keep it up

I found your work through ProjectComment Thanks for contacting them! Good luck!

Astarsia In reply to fireytika [2015-05-31 23:45:43 +0000 UTC]

I think perhaps you should try to limit your light sources (where the fire is...) and gradually work your way up to more and more light sources so that you gain that skill slowly. But you do have the right idea.

I'm glad you are happy with the critique. good luck!

Could use some more shadows on the face to make it appear less 2 dimensional. The flames on the swords appear faded so it looks kinda weird in terms of the rest. The jacket you did extremely well, great job. Flame effects under arm also nice. Keep at it! Skill is definitely there!

my comments here are the same as my suggestions on your sheldrache painting, although you did a better job with the fire highlights on the figure here.c: you should practice proportions, especially for the face, and maybe even change the way that you color fur so that it can be more realistic! then again, the stylistic choice is up to you~

Really cool fire effects in this; it's especially strong at the bottom of the piece. I think you did a good job with the lighting -- it's a challenge to show that sort of glow a fire gives off.

xXSerena-CrosseXx [2015-05-06 08:04:11 +0000 UTC]

Alrighty~ This one is pretty awesome, ain't gonna lie I do like this
one a lot. You show big time that you are learning lighting a lot better and
the fire affects are pretty wicked too. But this is my issue(s) here with this one.

The highlight of this picture, the main focus, is off...which is the face/head of your
character. It does not come up to part with the rest of this picture. From your sig'
to the affects and even the body-the head does not match the rest of the skill set.
While the rest is so well done and highlighted/shadowed nearly perfect and the lines
are so nice-the head just seems like your art drive slowed down or something. The
proportions are mostly what's bugging me and even the shape of his head (probably
cause when I think of a furry character I think furry and this doesn't look truly
furry to me).

The eyes are too large, the mouth far too small, the nose too small as well, and the
fur itself should look more like fur/hair. I have noticed you have a habit of doing thick
firm locks for the look of any hair and sometimes that doesn't always work. It leaves
the people looking...very sketchy cartoony especially next to such well done smooth
semirealistic affects. It just clashes and takes you a step back instead of a step forwards.
And this is a common problem a lot of people have. You should add more strands and locks
and make it look more flowy rather than these very few thick locks.

However I love the pose of this guy-I love how dynamic he is and how stunning this picture
is on it's own. Despite the flaws you can tell this is going to be a bad ass and I like that. You
just want to like this character-and not everyone can portray that in their pictures so I really
applaud you on this for many pictures-you show your characters in such a way people really
automatically enjoy them. =3 and that my friend is something people should learn from you.

Hhe i'll try make more fluffy fur next time XD
To be honest, up until now i'm still not sure if my characters are furry or anthros.
I always draw them and call them fantasy animals since they're mix from 2 or more species. And i just knew that there are anthro and furry category, recently when i active on dA.
Anyway, that's not important. I'm happy if you like them

xXSerena-CrosseXx In reply to fireytika [2015-05-06 15:38:02 +0000 UTC]

I would say he looks like an anthro =3
There are a lot of anthros (and furries) that are
more than one species.

^ This is something I think I expect when I see characters like this; of course
they are very humanoid but you can see the fur on the cheeks and on the neck
in this way and all. You definitely had the idea, but the execution was off but that
is alright =3 we all slip up

This is awesome! Your attention to detail is amazing! I really like how you've done all the folds in the clothes and used an orange highlight to capture the light of the flames. Those flames are very nicely done too, they look loose and natural. Great anatomy as well, his shoulders are a nice size, and I love the expression. It's a nice touch how his blue eye stands out from the rest of the overall colour scheme, great job!
