Description Trying my hand at GTS, its probably the hardest since you have to show scale in order for it to be effective. Basically I need to draw buildings better, and this kind of pushes me to do so. I do wish I had the kind of time to make this something special, but I don't.

Anyway, I had fun drawing this and I don't know if this girl will become a recurring character or not, time will tell!

Thank you, even though this is old as heck. 8 years!

For an early attempt at a giantess pic, it's very good.

Lots of skilled artists have trouble getting that scale firmly established, and you've made that work.

Buildings are hard, I need to draw more stuff in this vein though.

Definitely would like to see you do more in this vein.

Yeah, buildings, what a pain artistically. So much detail to do, to make them look right.

Didn't Levi's do a jeans ad kinda like this?

Half of it is scale, the other half is color. Think of far off buildings, mountains, forests. They seem to be more washed out of color.

Thanks!

And probably, I take a lot of influence in how I draw from things like Bleach and Tenchi, plus I used Sarah Jessica Parker reference for the hair.

Thanks, I'm still trying to figure out what works and what doesn't in the realm of this genre. I'm playing with some wilderness scenes right now (since I'm better at those than buildings).

GeoLigar In reply to First-Second [2011-01-26 01:43:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah buildings can be a pain. A city setting in general can be since you need to add so much detail to the scenery, or else it'd just be a bunch of boxes.

Perspective is more of the harder issue for me, but brick patterns and window ledges are no box of chocolates. I always have bad flashbacks to my sequential art and perspective classes.

Like Sheik said above, she has a very interresing expression... Almost like she's not totally comfotable squeezing herself through those buildings... like she hasn't quite gotten the hang of her new size.

Anyway, for a first attempt at a giantess artwork, this came out splendidly. And I, for one, would love to see this character reused in future drawings. ^_^

First-Second In reply to glidingmark [2011-01-23 21:48:38 +0000 UTC]

Well the problem is that her expression is a bit blank, there are certainly ways of showing bewilderment and the adjustment process without making her look vacant. I'll find a good comfort zone for that sort of thing.

I'll see how I can incorporate her in future projects.

Thanks! I know its a largely unfinished piece (so its a little hard to crit), but I love feedback. Anything about it that jumps out to you or you feel I could improve on in the future?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SheikTheGeek In reply to First-Second [2011-01-23 12:25:48 +0000 UTC]

Sure, her expression is a little bit of shock/worry and excitement, should be kinda focus on one or the other, where shes looking, Im guessing theres gonna be a tiny man on that roof? cause it would really look weird if there wasnt one in the final product. But I mean, you captured everything else really well. She does like a giantess that somehow grew and is casually strolling along...actually kinda looks like a girl I know XD

First-Second In reply to SheikTheGeek [2011-01-23 12:33:15 +0000 UTC]

I actually used a mix of Sarah Jessica Parker reference and one of my friends during the coloring process. I see what you mean about the expression, I was focused on trying to make the face cute (or at least palatable) but she does have kind of a blank stare.

I hadn't actually thought about putting in a regularly sized figure for focus and scale purposes. GTS is kind of all about the narrative of what's being told or isn't being told and that's probably something I should explore.

Thanks for the mini crit!

SheikTheGeek In reply to First-Second [2011-01-23 12:40:47 +0000 UTC]

Ah, well she looks good and is cute anyway

Ah yes thats true...but shes gotta be BIG of course too, lol. Its just with her looks, its really like shes looking at something thats not there, not specifically another person or anything.

Your welcome though, and you may get a comment from my friend whenever she logs on next, she would probably really like this piece!

First-Second In reply to SheikTheGeek [2011-01-23 12:52:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the eyes are certainly something I'm thinking about revisiting now (regardless if I finish the rest of it) since you've mentioned it its gotten progressively creepier to look at her looking at something without focus.

These are good things for me to keep in mind when I try some more GTS.

heh, yeah...emphasizing size is equally as important.
