Description
I worked on these two comic pages last week, just for fun.I didn't do any lettering or coloring (obviously) but it was fun to do the layouts and the inks.Ā I'd love to have the time to go back and color them but it's very time consuming and I also have commissions I'd like to do and more fun pages like these I'd like to get to.
Enjoy!

Thanks.Ā It's all about technique.Ā I can tell you more if you want to know, but once you kind of know how it's done it's not too tough to do.

So here are the basics.
First, I'd suggest you work with masked layers.Ā In Photoshop it's under "Layers > New Fill Layer > Solid Color"Ā Your brush uses just black and white where white designates where the color of the layer shows through, and black is where it doesn't.
I use a standard brush, in Photoshop it's the 4th on the list.Ā Basically, it's hardness 100, with Shape Dynamics so it gets thicker the more pressure you put on it.
Then there's the sizes.Ā I tend to use two sizes of brushes as I ink.Ā You start with your big brush, for me it's around 20px.Ā Using this you ink all the 'big stuff'.Ā Basically anywhere there's an outline of a character, or a place with a strong edge, you want a thicker line.Ā So... the outlines of characters, boobs, edges of weapons, that kind of thing.
Then you move to a finer brush for the rest.Ā For me, it's 7px. Same brush.Ā You just go back and add in all the details, creases, hatching, etc.
Lastly, there's a bit of technique involved.Ā As you work you'll find it's difficult to get a very nice 'sharp' ending to your lines.Ā This is because the brush never really tapers to a fine point and always seems to end in a blob.Ā Like, say you're drawing a 'V' and you want the tip of that 'V' to be nice and sharp.Ā What you do is you draw the two sides of the 'V'Ā One line coming down and in on the left.Ā Another coming down and in on the right.Ā And you draw them SO THEY CROSS.Ā So there's a little extra dangling there.Ā Then, you tap 'x' (switching your background and foreground color) and you ERASE those lines until they're nice and sharp.
Mastering this technique is crucial to being able to ink like this.Ā It's kind of like sharpening a stick.Ā You break off a stick, and it's not very fine at the end, so you shave off bits at the end until it's very clean and sharp.
Same deal here.Ā When you've got a line that you want to be 'sharp', just switch to black (your eraser) and use that to sharpen off the end.
Hope that all helps!

This is quite nice - very clean lines. The art is not too busy. And I like how you've done the "future tech" and the futuristic images by artfully combining different geometric shapes. Terrific! Is the female, btw, carrying spare oxygen tanks or fuel, maybe, in canisters built into the front of her metallic uniform? I don't know. I suppose the extreme reason could be that in the future, people eat more hormone chicken than they do today, thereby causing massive development of --- well shucks, boobies.Ā

He's a professional, he's just freelance rather than working for a publisher or developer.
