Description
Can mountains be theBoundary between real and
What I wish could be?
Started this about a year ago when I just felt like playing with clouds. Then I decided to play with mountains. And then I decided to play with trees. And then I thought, 'Wow, this isn't horrible. Let's try making something of it.' So then I tried -- and failed -- to draw Kyra leaning on a balcony railing. Very much disappointed in myself, I set this aside and went on to other projects, periodically returning to my ill-fated attempts to draw a satisfactory Kyra. Finally, after my more or less successful results with Dev, Ruan, and Kyra's portraits, I found a photo reference of an acceptable pose and have finally finished it.
I liked this better when it was still a work in progress. I hate the balcony and the lighting on Kyra. I meant it to be primarily backlit, but instead I just have an inconsistant light source. I love the tiny trees back near the hills though, and the pretty rocks behind Kyra.
Details available at my website.
EDIT 6/29/05: I got a Mod's Choice for this over at Elfwood! Yea! I feel very appreciated now

Personally, I think that the balcony looks perfectly fine and I wouldn't have even noticed the lighting "problem" if you hadn't mentioned it! You shouldn't point stuff like that out! Just let people not notice it!!
Hahahaha. But that's okay...I do the same thing a lot of the time. But of course...you're a much better artist!
Beautiful job! The colours are great...I wish I could live there.

Thanks I guess I might have been a bit too critical of the lighting when I finished this. And people have since reminded me that there can be multiple light sources outdoors, so it doesn't bother me as much now as it did then. The little things just start to get to you when you've been staring at the same thing for months on end.
P.S. - I wish I could live there, too.

I understand how that is. That's why I finish pictures really fast...and if I haven't finished them by the time the month is out, then I just give up!
You're welcome, by the by!

I really fell in love with this painting! Now I have it as a wallpaper on my screen and I really enjoy looking at it and keep dreaming.
Though I re-made it for me a bit (added some contrast in PS, rubbed the ears and lenghtened the hair, hope you donΒ΄t mind ), because she ten look like Flamma, which is my own character in my fantasy writing.
I like her expression...determined or something like that. ItΒ΄s magic.
Good job!

I'm glad you're enjoying it! I don't mind that you altered it for your own computer, as long as you don't put it up anywhere else on the internet (not that you would, but it's always better to be safe than sorry )

Wow...gorgeous...I was never alandscape person myself, not that I don't like looking at them I just can't create them. I love the border the trees and balcony kind of provied, framing the distant scenery of the hills and the mountains. I love the nice soft feel of the lighting and the colors. Gorgeous ^^

Wow, i don't think i've seen a painting that expresses space and distance in the scenery so well in a long time. the colors are perfect, very natural, and I also like Kyra's hair
It looks very realistic, but in a dreamy kinda way. luv it.

This is beautiful! Kyra looks relaxed and I think she fits perfectly into the scene. Luckily, the outdoors is full of multiple light sources - it looks great! The leaves on the trees are wonderful, too.

I can't take complete credit for Kyra's pose and the general compositions of the leaves, as I did use photo references for those, but I'm glad you like them, as a lot of time and effort went into making them as accurate as possible. And I appreciate your point of view on the lighting situation. It certainly makes me feel better You're very kind indeed. Thanks so much!
