Description Joka from Klonoa: Door to Phantomile on PSX for the Villain's Challenge at

Welcome to Phantomile, where the heroes are colorful and the bad guys look like they jumped out of a McDonald's Happy Meal box. Since I didn't play Phantomile when it came out, I don't have nostalgia for it like I do for Lunatea's Veil (love love LOVE that game), but I like it all the same since they're pretty much the same exact experience with minor changes here and there. My favorite stage from the game is the kingdom of Jugpot.

Although usually a bumbling idiot, Joka starts causing some major mayhem for Klonoa and Huepow later in the game. He morphs into a giant flying monster and you need to change him back by matching all the colored blocks in the ring-shaped pathway that surrounds him.

The focus of this challenge was on gaming villains, but I kinda wish I had gone for more of a combat scene that included Klonoa tossing a Moo at Joka. I didn't see much art of his beast form, and that made me want to include it in the piece.

Hah hah, I'm in the same boat as far as nostalgia for Klonoa goes. I didn't play Klonoa 1 until the Wii remake (with the Phantomile voices on of course, because the English dubbing was horrendous), have all of the nostalgia for Lunatea's Veil. I hope to one day play the PS1 version but at the price it's going for on eBay, that probably won't be for a while.

I really like this! Bright and colorful, yet oddly sinister. Very fitting for the character!

Oh geez, I forgot about the Wii's English dub....

I've been meaning to buy the digital copy of Phantomile from the PSN,
but I've got too many other unplayed games right now XD
If you get the chance to play them, the DS Klonoa games are also
pretty darn good.

How to make a Klonoa fan cry - show them the scene where Klonoa's Grandpa dies or the ending.
How to make a Klonoa fan cry in a different way - show them the scene where Klonoa's Grandpa dies or the ending while the English dub is on.
The voice they chose for Joka was okay, everything else was so, so bad. Especially Sonic!Klonoa.

I have one of the Klonoa handhelds, actually! Very fun but also pretty difficult. I haven't actually beaten it yet because it's more puzzle orientated.

I never see Klonoa fan art at all, let alone good fan art. Great job!

Seems the villains/bosses challenge group activity was totally motivating and appreciated. Not only are over 30 artists on board and claimed often characters which are super rarely drawn, like your Joka, but that 5 pieces are finished and submitted already is also a good sign.

Kudos to you for adding the beast form as well. This is front-page material and will be on the frontpage for the whole january 2015!

Good to hear the project is going well. The group should definitely do another round of the Villains challenge sometime.

My first picks for this challenge were General Lionwhyte (Brutal Legend) or the Bleak Spirit (The Last Tinker), but I'm really glad we chose this one first because it turned out great and Klonoa deserves as much artwork as it can get.
