Description

She snuck out early in the morning, before Catherine had a chance to berate her- again- and tell her not to mess with Orphan. The stallion had been so much fun to look at, and work with, all week. She sighed when she couldn't get near him and day-dreamed about what to do with him. Now, though, now Wolf was distracting Cat with an animated argument and that gave her the chance she needed to slip out of the main house, across the rows of pastures and into the barn holding Orphans halter. She paused in the doorway, waiting for her eyes to adjust and smiled when they finally did. The beautiful stallion was in his stall, dozing, with his halter already on. All she had to do was add the leadrope.

The pale woman reached over the stall door clucking softly and tickled his nose. The stallion woke, eye-balling her for a moment before gruffing noisily and shuffling forward through the thick straw to hang his head and sniff her over for treats. "I don't have anything for you, pretty boy. But I do have an idea." he sighed when he found nothing and pricked his ears. An Idea? She opened the stall, leading him out and scrambled onto his broad back. He snorted, fidgetting. This was new. This was very new. He turned his ears back and forth as she settled in place on his back before leaping forward at the soft touch of her heels. She leaned low over his neck, grinning as he stretched into an enthusiastic gallop down the path that led to his barn and out onto one of the trails in the forests surrounding the stables.

Catherine screamed something out the window at them but neither one of them looked back, or understood what she'd said. This was freedom. The stallion whinnied joyfully and Ghost laughed as they ran, slowing him down when the terrain was unsafe to run in and clamping tight to him when he decided he was going to go over an obstacle rather than around it. She whistled after the third fallen log. "You'd make a great jumper, you know that." she laughed and he snorted, slowing down, finally, when they reached a small meadow. He circled it, over and over until he'd stopped and gave his entire body a shake. Ghost laughed.

"Alright, alright, I'm getting down." she swung her leg over to sit sideways on him and looked down, watching him shove his greedy nose into the grass. It was a quiet, happy moment as she watched him, tearing away at the grass and nipping at itches on his legs. It wouldn't last forever. If they didn't get back soon Catherine would come chasing after them but it was entirely, completely worth it. She slapped his shoulder and dropped down to the grass to lay down, barely holding his lead rope as he clipped happily away at fresh, spring blades.
