Description
Creature Study No. 481
The small cave-crater where Mesprit live is in the large lake-crater known as Lake Verity. The environment inside is similar to the forest surrounding Lake Verity. It is quartered off from the rest of the lake so that tourists do not fall into the gaping hole at the top (which allows sunlight and water to enter the cavern).
Locals traditionally do not let outsiders into the cavern neither through the top nor by the underwater entrance (marked by the “Mark of Emotion” which only religious officials may enter). The only record of the cave’s innards are present in oral stories. The stair-step pyramid inside the cavern is made of andesite* rocks. Sunlight is said to enter the temple during Mesprit’s migration.
Although Mesprit individuals may be found in the surrounding forest all year, migration occurs around the winter solstice. It is celebrated by stringing lanterns in trees in the nearby forest along with scheduled power outages in the surrounding settlements. Mesprit fly out of the [cavern’s] roof gaining lift by spiraling upward.
The lake is cleared and people watch from the shore. However, some stay in the forest where lanterns are hung (watching for Legend Hunters).
The lanterns, although harmless alone, attract Mesprit (and therefore keep them away from the villages). They bat and swoop at the lanterns (likely to eat the insects attracted to the light) making easy targets for anyone who would like to capture them. Unfortunately, protection cannot be provided through out the entire migration path to Spear Pillar. Individuals who see a Legend Hunter pursuing a Mesprit with the intention to capture it must report the event to the authorities.
Mesprit’s ability to drain emotion is not fully understood. Although quite rare, the anomaly [is] thought tobe associated with the Amygadala,* one of the centers of the brain associated with: emotion-based memory, fear, and pleasure. The subject exhibits apathy with little other side effects.
[Top] The local religious official was kind enough to bring my Ditto when she went to the underwater temple on the solstice. I studied the anatomy of Mesprit based
[Right] on how Dough Boy recalled it. (Dough Boy is really good at retaining the Pokémon he encountered.)Mesprit exudes an oil to help capture insects and possibly aid it to swim in search of fish. The quantities needed to produce
[Bottom] apathy are more than oil levels Present in the fur at any one time. (It’s possible Mesprit can use its Psycho-kinetic abilities to augment the effects the oil can have on the human brain. The toxin needs to be absorbed into the body over a long period of time if it is not used with Mesprit’s Psychic powers.) A concentrate of this oil can eat away at the Amygdala and surrounding tissues leaving the person unable to recover. The only way I can see this being a problem to the human race is if Legend Hunters or wayward Trainers catch Mesprit, teach them Toxic, and then release them.
The formatting of this one is a little different than the other studies I already did. The picture was hand drawn but almost everything on the page you can see was done on the computer. (That doesn't mean it was any easier, though.) I couldn't fit everything I wanted on the page because I really wanted you guys to see the "Mark of Emotion" in the background. (It was really hard to find on the internet. ) I didn't want it to be completely covered up. This one is mostly habitat, migration, and a little bit of behavior.
The asterisked words are andesite and Amygdala. Andesite is a volcanic rock that usually has small pockets of minerals in inside. In regards to the Amygdala, please please look it up yourself. Brain stuff is always so complicated and I am by no means an expert in the subject.
On another note, this guy is based on a Bat mixed with an Aye-Aye. It's also the approximate size of an Aye-Aye too.
