Description The second picture of my Inspiration/Music series, inspired by two songs:

“Hero’s Return” by Hammerfall and “Power of the Dragonflame” by Rhapsody. Both are part of my favourites for epic power metal bands =]

And to think, I wasn’t going to colour this. I’m glad I did, because most things are best in colour.

This reminds me of the hobbit.

I really like the colors and the cartoonish feel of the gold.

I'm glad you colored it as well. :]

The coins seem a bit flat but the dragon is exquisite!

Aw thanks! ^^- Yeah I know what you mean. The coins aren't like a 'hill' or 'mountain' of treasure - seems more like a wall (flat). I'm keeping this in mind for future art!

This is great. I really like the dragon's eye, great shading of the green. Also, the scales are wonderful. It's evident you put a lot of work into this. What did you use to do the coloring? And I'm glad you colored it. Sometimes when I look at pictures that I've colored and ones I haven't, I can see how certain designs would be looked at differently. Color adds a whole new dimension. I don't think I could do a picture without color anymore. Well done with this picture.

Thank you very much for your insightful comment!

You're right - colouring adds a whole new dimension

I use Crayola (aka crap for kids ) colouring pencils. It's all I can afford at this time. Perhaps when my sister is willing to give me her set of prismas, or when they go on sale.

wow! you shaded each scale :b, a lot of work IMO,
a little observation: maybe you noticed it too, but the part of his tail that we see coming from the back of the um... candy mountain (xD) seems to be very flat or thin, maybe you could make a little shading at the tail's side to give the impression of burrowness(?), well, crappy english, but I think u get my point xD
you color very well btw, what did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Five-Aces In reply to Uareme [2006-02-05 18:56:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you I use colouring pencils; Crayola (aka, crap for kids XD)

Yes the whole art is flat because it's so hard for me to add depth using pencil crayon. It's very possible, and I'm really trying to figure this stuff out. This is an old picture too, so I've learned alot from people like yourself giving me advice

Idiosyzygic [2006-02-05 09:03:34 +0000 UTC]

Overall, this is very nice work. The level of detail is impressive, especially the depiction of the gold coins the dragon scales. The way the dragon coils itself around the treasure definitely shows its greedy nature.

Well, the coin piles look flat and seem to take the appearance of a wall. You might want to depict the pile of coins as more of a hill. Shadowing is one way to do that. You also might want to do something with the blank black background, unless it is part of the picture. Last but not least, the dragon seems to be missing something around the jaw area, but I cannot exactly determine what the missing part is, since I cannot describe it in the picture.

Five-Aces In reply to Idiosyzygic [2006-02-05 19:01:13 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much

Yes I know, this whole thing is quite flat. It's an old pic, and I didn't really know how to shade with colouring pencils, especially a brand like Crayola. The background is black because I wanted to do a cave on the computer, but didn't have the software for even attempting it. The jaw thing? Yeah I think it's because it blends in too much with the coins, plus the back of the jaw isn't well defined.

I'm trying to figure this stuff out as I go, thanks to people like you giving my suggestions

LMAO! I never thought about it that way Chocolate gold! And those crystals are rock candy The skull is...candy too...yeah. That's it. And the sword is one of those ones you find in party drinks... Well the dragon is very protective of his stash of candy. I would be too *nods wisely*

Five-Aces In reply to zeratul547 [2006-02-01 04:40:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes I know. It's flat because I didn't incorporate a lot of shading, which gets eaten by the scanner anyways. Thanks for the comment, it's an old picture
