Description
Getting to know my new camera, and also getting used to shooting with a proper macro lens. This was a bastard to capture, the damn thing was wiggling around enough as it was, but the wind was also making the tree dance about. Out of the two dozen or so photos I took this was the best one.
What I've found really interesting, is that I've walked around the garden many times before, and never noticed the insects. The minute I walk outside with a macro lens, and they're EVERYWHERE! RUN!

I opened on of those pouches before and there was a spider inside instead.

Macro lenses really do make you more aware of your surroundings! I like how the dark spots draw attention to the critter. May I ask what new equipment you are using?

It's a Sigma SD14, with a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX macro lens (not the DG version.)
I'm loving it so far, but even with everyone's tips the tight DOF is still kicking my ass. I've only gone out to shoot ten or so times though, so I'm not about to blame my equipment just yet

Magnificent capture What better depth of field can one aim to achieve?
The blurred green evokes a sense of tranquil and calm. And I like that.
I just can't get over how close this is. How very personal, like I can almost whisper to it

If you search and look more around you it's amazing what you can find in the macro-world

Woah, this is fantastic!
I love the film-like quality it has, and the DoF is perfect for the composition.
I like how "he"'s bursting into the frame at the top right, and the purple background at the bottom left goes so well with the green of the conifer(?).

Thanks
It was shot with my new SD14, which uses a three layer CCD rather than the pixel matrix regular digital cameras use - and the macro lens is also from a film camera. I guess that could contribute to why it looks like film, but I'm not sure if that is technically correct. It's probably down to the colour balancing I did in Lightroom.
