She couldn’t help it as her eyes every so often fluttered towards his direction with meek admiration. He was quite a handsome face, strong, and yet soft. Like a flower. She’d never seen him before; she couldn’t have, so sure she would’ve noticed those fair eyes in a crowd.

Oh, snap out of it, Ori! the emissary would tear her gaze away. There was work to do, and certainly no time to fan the embers of an innocent fancy. Besides, he was a Taikan. Eventually he’d have to go, and Orianthi was all too familiar with where that road went. She was tired of leaving, or being left. Setting down any emotional roots just wasn’t a risk she was willing to take with their southern guests, pretty as they were.

Why did she have to let herself get so carried away on a cloud when they were on such a serious matter? Ori shook her head as if she might be able to physically eject the image of his carved features from her mind. Why did crushes have to be so bothersome?
