Well, the first pokeball I ever got came from a man called Samuel Oak. There is something in them, but only in 5 of them. My Pikachu is a little claustrophobic.

The new ones are better for competitive play, have more strategy in them plus other factors that makes them superior to Gen1.
They don't have the nostalgic value though.
