[SPOILER: SEASON 3 HAS WIND]So they've released (officially, not leaked) a few sneak peek vids at the next season and oh dear god, the animation looks... I didn't think it could get better! But it did! I just HAD to draw that hair, gently flowing in the wind.
I cannot express my delight. Except through using colored outlines for once.

The animators really worked a little too hard on twilight's hair. Also not many of you noticed, but at the end of crystal empire while twilight's train is heading back to Ponyville, Luna,(who is standing next to Celestia), is holding a book twilight has to complete to become a princess in Magical Mystery Cure. Not sure if this is hinting the season finale but it seems most likely.

Great work on the mane, but it's the shading that I'm mostly impressed with.
I don't know what I loved more, her mane flowing like that, or her busting some sweet teleport-lillypad-magic moves...

Thanks man! And with some of the edits I had to make with this later on in its creation (due to idiotic oversight on my part HURRRRRR
oh well) I realized that dealing with colored outlines was... ack. Just a bit, for that. But I had to, because the background had colored lines and it looked weird in black ink and yadda yadda.

Aye, while I can appreciate how colored outlines help blend everything together etc, they're still a huge pain to work with. You'd never think that'd be the case just looking at them, but for some reason it just is~

The wingpower in Hurricane Fluttershy was not wind, it was simple breeze magic combined with airbending.
This, however, is a breakthrough.

Anyway, scenes like this just go to show that the animators are highly committed to this series and put a lot of effort into it. This cannot be easy to do, especially in a program that wasn't intended for large-scale productions. It makes me smile as a fan of animation to see the crew sharpen their skills and up the quality with each season. They'll be going very far by the time they work on a completely new project.
