Description
Got the idea for this after listening to "Don't Fear the Reaper" on repeatActually had the motivation to make a somewhat detailed digital painting for once. I'm actually pretty happy with the final result, though there are some things I may touch up on or add to (the lighting over the right shoulder is a little weird, and I want to add natural bends to the fabric).
The character was originally going to be a steller's jay, though I couldn't quite get the markings on the head to flow naturally. So now it's just some kind of corvid avian I guess.
Hope you all are doing well

This is really cool, I like it a lot!
You're really good with the light and shadow in your artwork, and I think you've improved noticeably if you compare the really early art in your gallery to your newest drawings.

Thank you so much!
I'm glad to hear that there's improvement in it. I still have quite a bit to learn, but I think I'm starting to get a better handle on lighting and shading in realistic drawings.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like him.
For whatever reason I really enjoy drawing things in eerie/dark atmospheres.

Aahhhh this is amazing! I love Don't Fear the Reaper, and this drawing absolutely fits it, it's perfect. Also holy crap, amazing job on the shading, especially on the beak. Just...wow, amazing job all around.

Thank you so much man, it really means a lot! Don't Fear the Reaper is such a great song; I love the soft harmony coupled with the continuous guitar riff. I wanted to encompass the the eerie yet mesmeric vibe the song has. Glad you think it fits.
Haha thank you! It took quite a while to get the shading and lighting on the beak to look the way that I wanted it, but it was fun to work out the details. It was certainly good practice.
Aahh thank you again

I will always rember Don't Fear the Reaper because it kind of represented the main theme in one of my favorite books, The Stand. You did an amazing job of fitting that mood.

I'll have to check that book out. I read the summary and it looks interesting (I find post apocalyptic stuff to be quite intriguing).
Thank you!

Honestly I love post apocalyptic stories, but the problem is there's so little of it and the stuff that there is is generally pretty uncreative. That said, Stephen King is one of my favorite authors and the way he wrote the Stand is friggin fantastic, it remains to this day probably my favorite book of all time. It's long, but if you can manage to get through it I would absolutely recommend it.

I will certainly have to look into it. I've been meaning to read some of Stephen King's works (I wanted to read IT in particular after I saw the movie) since I've heard that they are great books.
Anything that has good character development, isn't overly predictable, and is perhaps a little dark are typically the ones I enjoy. Another genre I like is dystopian fiction, but I rarely ever find any that stand out. George Orwell's 1984 was decent, though I much prefer A Brave New World over it. I got to study both of them quite deeply when I was in highschool.
Another bookβone that I enjoy mainly for it's themesβis on by Albert Camus called The Plague. It's not as exciting as some other books are, but it really makes you feel for the characters as they witness terrible things occur. It highlights conflicts between people, establishments, and ideologies, but ultimately focuses on how people handle tragedy both personally and as a group.
Sorry for the book rant XD
