“It doesn’t matter. You were gonna fall off the roof.”
“No, I wasn’t!”
“I didn’t invite you because you were obviously going to say no. With so many other options to choose from…”
“Well, guess what?! Nobody cares about me! Not even my best friend! Now I’m all alone in the loser’s rooftop.”
Lily took a second to think about what she just had said and continued with an angry tone.
“Sorry! I didn’t mean that! You’re just making me angry!”
Dylan looked away before speaking. “You know I care about you…”
“Then be my couple and go dance with me!”
Surprised, embarrassed and amused by the absurdity of the proposal, Dylan chuckled and raised his voice, looking at Lily again.
“Are you joking?! The princess and the frog together? We’ll be the laughing stock of the whole party!”
“I don’t care! We already are, we’re the only ones without a date.”
“Stop saying weird stuff!”
Dylan was starting to blush by hearing Lily say things like “couple” and “date” when referring to the two of them. He had liked Lily since he first saw her, but hadn’t had the courage to ask her out; hearing her say these things was simply unbelievable. He was convinced she was just messing with him, especially since she kind of knew he liked her, since that time she found out he had been taking pictures of her.
“I’m going back inside!” exclaimed Lily suddenly, “and if you’re not coming with me, I’m going on the dancefloor by myself. And I’ll be the laughing stock all alone, and it will be your fault. How about that?”
The kids remained silent for a few seconds, giving way to the night sounds and the slow music in the distance. Dylan thought about it for a moment, feeling very mortified, but that changed in just a few seconds.
“You don’t even know how to dance, do you?” he asked with a cheeky smile.
“W-what?!! Of course I do!”
“Like, with a couple?”
“… Sure.”
