Personality:
Oak has something of a two-part personality, depending on the situation he's in. When in a serious atmosphere, he has an attitude to match it, strict and instinctive, a true commander. But if in a casual situation, he's more affectionate and warmhearted.
During battle, he is adaptive and swift to act, as well as openminded to new ideas when it comes to other people. He acts mostly on what his gut tells him, and so far it hasn't gotten him killed, so he's decided that it is officially his policy.
When near superiors, he puts on an almost emotionless shell. Some suspect that this is to impress them. However, if that was true, he wouldn't stretch the rules so often, so as of now the reason is unclear. It seems that he keeps his more rebellious and feisty side bottled up during these times.
When among his comrades in a less pressing situation, Oak has kind attitude towards them. He's well-known for having a quick wit and a slightly sarcastic charm. Despite this annoying others at times, it's hard to stay mad at him, as it is clear that his intentions are good.
Despite what you may assume, he is a high-ranking and well-respected soldier. He has massive amounts of skill because of his amazing instincts, and is notorious for his elegant battle style. That isn't to say that he isn't flawed. In a few cases, his improvisation has gotten many allies killed. Needless to say, this has caused him massive amounts of guilt, and several times before he considered resigning because of anxiety attacks that happen randomly while he is in action.

Bio:
Long story short, he's a little bit of a freak on the inside. He absolutely craves battle more than anything else. He has the deep-seeded desire to be the predator, and he takes out this urge on titans.
As a kid, he worked with his father on a farm, one of the few places with plentiful livestock. His parents never grew desperate, so he was comparatively lucky. That is, until the place filled with titans. He and his parents fled to safety and managed to all make it. But as Oak grew, he became more and more restless. He felt like a caged bird. He ached to stretch his muscles, to do SOMETHING. So when he got the chance, he signed up to be a titan slayer.
Oakley proved to be a natural in battle. His instincts would immediately take over as soon as he started. And although the trainers didn't especially like Oak (he was a troublesome student because he often made snide remarks) there was no doubt that he was highly skilled. He had the opportunity to move further in--but he decided to become a scout. He craved titan blood. No, he craved blood in general.
