Description
So, this is one of the reasons why I've posted so little this year, apart from the fact I've been quite busy most of the time I've had for drawing I've spent on this. I was keeping a careful note of exactly how long I'd spent on it but I lost count sometime after I'd reached thirty hours. I've been working on this since January, which was when some of you might have seen me livestream some of it, so as you can tell from how big a deal I'm making about how long it's taken me I'm very glad to have finally finished it.On to the picture itself, there are two of each species of anomalocaridid, including Anomalocaris, Laggania (or Peyotia), Schinderhannes and Amplectobelua. Hopefully I've got all of those right, I haven't checked them so they might not be. The colours were based mainly on nudibranches, although the two Hurdia (the ones with the shell thing coming out of their faces) were based on crabs and the Anomalocaris in the foreground was based on a mantis shrimp.
This was done for the cover of a magazine, although those of you who know me will be able to tell that I did have quite a bit of say what went on it (after all, why else would it feature anomalocaridids?) That's also why they're in a city and have metallic parts, since just plain normal anomalocaridids would not have fitted the magazine very well, it being about science fiction.
There are lots of small details on this that I don't normally bother with, especially on the further away anomalocaridids. But I think overall it's the background I'm most happy with, that and eye of the one in the foreground.

wow, this really must have taken quite a while! You did a great job with it though I like all the different layers of depth and the funny angle that you used

Thanks! I did sort of set out with a list of things I never do but know I should (like the unusual angle, the relatively detailed background, reflected light, that sort of thing) and tried to do all of them, some worked better than others but overall I am very pleased with it.

Thanks! I'm sorry it's taken me ages to reply, I've been being an antisocial lurker and not been doing anything about messages ect. And also your comment was so lovely I haven't been sure what to say
I've been a bit stressed of late, there's a lot of non-art things I need to do which have been eating all my time, but I'm feeling inspired so you never know, art may happen at some point (although I say that every time, so I'm not sure you can trust me on that). I do have to say I have been quite impressed with some of the stuff you've been posting recently, and even more so at how prolific you've been with artwork. I'm sorry I haven't been able to say that you're awesome on everything you've posted, but if I had the time I would.

That's okay! It's understandable with all the stress and things you've been needing to do, and you're at university so it is perfectly fine! I understand that you dont get the time
I hope everything is going fine for you!
Thank you ever so much Fluffy! Im really glad you like what I've been posting, though Im still trying to improve it since although I'm happy with it when I first post it, I soon get nit picky with it and just find the flaws.
It's fine Fluffy, dont worry ^^

Yeah, I thing things are fine overall. Just a bit manic sometimes XD
No problem! I know the feeling, I've printed out some of the drawings I've done and put them on my wall, but it doesn't take long for the main thing I thing when I see them to become 'the eyes are too big' and that sort of thing. But that sort of attitude is good for improving, so it's not a bad thing.

Thank you! I'm pleased it's both weird and cool, part of me was worried it was a bit too odd and that very few people besides me would like it.

I'm not even sure of what to say about this, the idea and style and everything of it is really awesome!

Thank you
I'm really pleased you think so, it's very different to anything I've done before both in the style and the subject, so it's good to know it worked

The style is so different I only knew it was you immediately because of the creatures in it. XD Not a bad thing at all, just surprising.

Yes, anomalocaridids are quite recognisably a me thing, but this sort of style is much less so. I'm not sure if I'll do anything like this again in future (I expect if I do it won't be for a while) but I think spending so long on it has forced me to improve on several grounds, so I expect I'll be applying stuff I've learnt from this to other things.

I like that it was a change in the other direction, but it's still better. More cartoony than your normal stuff but because you put the time in it it's very strong.

I think it's mostly going to be something I can look at to remind me what I can achieve when I do put time and effort in rather than something I'll do again, but it's something I am glad I did. It's funny you say it's a bit cartoony though, since I almost flat shaded the foreground but decided against it.

Thank you! I tried a lot of new things with it, so it's great hearing that you like it The details did kill me a bit, but I think it was worth it in the end.

Thank you! I focused more on colour (especially reflected colour) and less on shading than I normally do, and I'm glad to hear it worked
