Description
In the sweeping landscape of the shattered plains, two lizard ecologists tag and photograph a beast called a daggerfly, which has grounded itself to feed. These creatures capture prey by dropping from great heights to impale them, but they are harmless when grounded like this. A few of its tiny offspring hover close by, eager to scavenge on their parent's kill. This region was formed only a few tens of thousands of years ago, when a fragment of the ancient superstructure of the Shell collapsed. Only the hardiest flora and fauna eke a living in the thin ceramic soil; offering valuable insight into the process of primary succession on this strange, artificial world. My half of an art trade with another artist whose worldbuilding I admire. The added benefit was forcing me to complete a large, ambitious piece like I so rarely do. I definitely learned some things about color and composition in the process, so even if this isn't perfect, I'm satisfied.
