Description This bizarre alien creature is rather like a poodle sized frog in appearance and behavior, and like most earth amphibians, it cannot survive without a moist environment to live in, else its skin would dry out. It has four eyes and four jaws, with each jaw individually hinged in its complex skull. The braincase itself is entirely separate from the jaw and eye sockets, instead situated right beneath the bumpy hump behind the eyes. A large nerve runs between the cranium and the frontal area of the head, and in some species, this entire section of skin is protected with scaly plates or spiky growths. It uses the large fangs on the end of each jaw rather like a snake, to grab prey and walk it into the throat. Only the male has the fleshy tendrils at the base of his tail like abdomen, these are used to grip the female's body while mating. As such, his penis is located right underneath that area.
This particular species pictured, dubbed phaulius morsu, which literally means "nasty bite" has a bad habit of biting any human explorer who comes into its territory. The entire family this species falls under has been nicknamed the snapping frogs, due to obvious reasons. It does not seem to take an interest in people as prey, but rather as a curiosity or plaything. It is believed to be about as smart as scrub jay, more or less. It moves rather clumsily on land, but runs surprisingly quickly if it wants. It also pretty good at climbing trees, which is useful in its jungle environment.
