Oban Star-Racers needs more fanart, seriously.(From Optimized like Ondai.)
Right, before I shut up, I have to thank a person for making this AMV (Warning, spoilers for Crisis Core, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Bleach [I assume that's a spoiler], Kingdom Hearts, and, of course, Oban Star-Racers.)
If they hadn't made that, it's likely I would have NEVER found this amazing show. I would have written it off as another emotionless, noseless, animesque terror before the second episode.

Yep. He's my favorite character. I wish we got a little more insight into his life--like, everyone else had some really serious backstory onscreen.
I think in the art book the reason why he wears his grandfather's dog-tags is explained, but I don't know what the story is. I'm not sure if there's an English version of the book...

I have the English version of the artbook, lemme look it up:
His father was Captain of a shapeship the Earth Coalition when they started harvesting on other planets. When William Wilde (granddaddy) was held captive by the Crogs he revealed information about Earth's defenses (after torture) and soon after that the Crogs attacked and William was named a traitor. Later... when Jordan joins the Space Academy they all know he's William's grandson so he had a hard time training to be an elite soldier...
God, they should've made an episode of that. I would watch it over everyday! XD

To be honest, Yoko Kanno also did the original opening to Oban Star Racers. It is called "Chance to Shine" and it is fantastic. I think the reason the opening was changed in the U.S. was to attract a larger and perhaps younger demographic that couldn't understand the languages of Japanese and French in the original opening. The reason the ending wasn't changed was because the channel would usually announce upcoming shows during this time.
