Description Huge big-ass piece of stone that turns out to be half a mortar on closer inspection. This is like the roman pottery I did on my first day - the piece i had in front of me looked nothing like this drawing, so this is half reconstruction. Its a mortar tho, about as wide as an A4 piece of paper, with one handle surviving which is useful.

I think this is anglo saxon.

I agree with him, I dont know much about identifying finds yet, but I can see why they have dated this as anglo saxon. Its difficult to put into words tho, ask me again in a couple of years!
