Description
Celestia was reading one of her letters from Twilight aloud to her sister Luna. Luna looked up at her sister with slightly annoyed eyes and said, "Sister, you always tell me about how proud you are of Twilight Sparkle. Although I see why, as she is a very loyal and kind subject who helped me, I am tired of hearing about your letters. I request that I too may get an apprentice."Celestia smiled at Luna, "Alright sister, how would you like to choose this apprentice? Picking the right apprentice is a very important decision."
"I will have unicorns from across the land to come perform for me, Then I'll choose who is worthy."
The stage lights dimmed and the crowd got silent. Fog rushed through the audience, a voice was heard from all directions, "Humble yourself ponies of Trottingham, before The Greater and more Powerful Trixie! For three years Trixie has practiced her magic in seclusion. The Great and Powerful Trixie is truly the greatest and most powerful unicorn of all time!!" The fog in the air started to collect into a giant glorious image of Trixie. Gasps, awes, and cheering were heard all throughout the crowd. The giant fog Trixie leaped into the stage. At contact with the stage the fog Trixie suddenly spread out through the entire audience. The sky lit up in bright fireworks. A sold, real Trixie with her horn glowing flew over the audience and onto the stage. The crowd erupted in cheering.
The show had been a success. Of course it was. Trixie was not surprised at all. She entered her new mobile carriage home and sat down near her mirror. Her new magic hat and cape floated off of her and onto a rack. The new outfit was basically the same with a new color scheme, gold stars on a black background. A brush magically floated off of a table and started to groom Trixie's gorgeous mane. There was a knock heard on the door. "Who would dare to bother the Great and Powerful Trixie? She has just completed her show and…" Trixie stared up through a peep-hole at a royal guard who was waiting outside. Trixie opened the door with a half frown, "I don't suppose you're here for Trixie's autograph are you?" The guard's serious face stayed constant. He reached into his satchel and pulled out a letter with his teeth. Trixie reluctantly grabbed the letter; she was slightly disgusted by the slobber on the side of it. A bright golden seal shined on the back of the letter. Immediately after seeing the seal, Trixie magically opened the letter and floated it in front of her.
Dear 'Great and Powerful' Trixie,
You have been invited to the royal palace in Canterlot to perform a show to gain the princesses' favor and become our dear princess Luna's apprentice. I have heard good things about the spectacular magic that you perform. I have been informed that you have recently come out of seclusion after practicing your magic for three years. That has caught our attention, we expect you to leave the princesses in awe.
From, ---
Trixie did not bother to read the signature, she saw it wasn't either of the princesses so it did not matter to Trixie. Trixie gained her composure, "Tell them that The Great and Powerful Trixie shall be honored to perform before the princesses." The guard nodded his head and flew off toward the large white castle in the mountain known as Canterlot. Trixie sat still with her nose in the air until the royal guard was out of sight. Her eyes opened wide as she quickly ran inside and slammed her door. She bit her lip and looked around the room nervously. "Oh what have I done, the princesses have much more power than I." Trixie looked at herself in a mirror that she used to groom herself before shows. "No, you can do this Trixie. This is what you've been training your entire life for." Trixie nodded at herself in the mirror, her eyes squinted in determination. The determined look in her eyes slowly transformed into the sly eyes of a fox. "If Trixie gains favor with one of the princesses, maybe Trixie can get her to teach me more powerful magic. I will finally be able to march into Ponyville and show up that despicable pony Twilight Sparkle, the unicorn that had embarrassed Trixie in front of that entire town!"
Trixie smiled widely, she had secretly idolized Luna for quite some time. Trixie felt a deep inner connection with the night princess, she acted so hard and thick skinned on the outside. On the inside all Trixie wanted was to be accepted by everypony and to simply be loved. Trixie went back to grooming herself as her mind filled with spectacular ideas for the show she'd put on for royalty.
The next morning Trixie woke up with the sun. The quiet dawn was disrupted by the sound of Trixie's carriage being pulled by the two large horses made of stars.
Inside of the carriage Trixie vigorously studied a large magic book, which was stolen from Twilight Sparkle's library as she ran out of town. Trottingham was a long way from Canterlot so Trixie had plenty of time to perfect the glorious magic show she had planned for the princesses. The long trip took a few days to complete. Generating the magic horses that pulled her carriage took little concentration for the Greater and even more Powerful Trixie, however it was not something she could do while sleeping so the carriage would have to be pulled over at nights. Trixie had perfected the incredible show that she had planned for the princesses and left the final day of the trip for grooming only. Trixie brushed her mane twice as long as she normal did. She also got a few more hours of sleep in order to help herself be as great and powerful as she needed to be in order to impress the princesses enough to become an apprentice and finally be able to exact her revenge on Twilight Sparkle, who in Trixie's mind was also becoming more powerful by the day.
The carriage stopped in front of the castle gates. Trixie looked at herself in the mirror, adjusted her hat, sighed strongly, nodded at herself and put her confident face on. A royal guard knocked on the door of the carriage. Trixie did not bother to answer to the likes of a servant, she simply yelled through the door, "I am the Great and Powerful Trixie. Trixie was invited here, open the gate." The guard kept knocking.
"I am sorry but I need to see your invitation to let you in." Without moving Trixie magically made the door swing open and shoved the letter into the guard's face. The guard angrily looked over the letter and grumbled as he opened the gate. The magic horses pulled forward and evaporated as the carriage came to stop again by the castle entrance. Trixie exited the door of her carriage and headed up the stairs. An earth pony waited at the top of the stairs, his face turning into delight as he looked upon the promising appearance of Trixie. The princess Luna had been very disappointed with the previous unicorns who had already attempted to gain her favor. The earth pony led Trixie to the throne room entrance. He opened the door and spoke,
"Your highnesses, 'The Great and Powerful' Trixie is here to try and receive your favor." Celestia smiled,
"Wonderful, than—"
"SEND HER IN SO WE MAY SEE IF HER MAGIC IS WORTHY OF OUR TEACHING." Luna yelled in her royal Canterlot voice.
"Ahem, well yes, send her in." Celestia looked over at Luna slightly annoyed.
The throne room doors were thrown open and a light purple cloud of smoke flooded into and wrapped around the room. The only light that was emitted was a very small amount that made it through the cloud from the outside. A bright, opaque sphere with craters littered across the surface emerged from the clouds. The sphere floated up to near the roof. Golden stairs slowly made themselves visible as they connected the ground to the sphere. A black dot appeared on the very top of the stairs and started to grow. The dot slowly transformed into the shape of an alicorn as it continued to walk down the stairs of gold. A crowd of all sorts started to come out of the smoke. They started to cheer loudly. The alicorn coming ever closer revealed itself as Luna. The crowd cheered ever louder as the Luna that Trixie had conjured slowly walked towards the thrones and faded away as she got closer to the real Luna. Another small dot, this time blue, appeared in the sphere. The dot quickly moved down the steps as they faded away behind it. The blue dot made out to be Trixie. The crowd started to slowly fade away until the only thing that remained was a small blue unicorn that bowed at the feet of the princess. Luna's eyes stared out at Trixie with a sort of sad smile. She looked up at her big sister and nodded. Celestia smiled caringly and nodded back to Luna. She turned back to Trixie, "Your performance was very touching, and you may stand." Trixie smirked,
"Well Trixie IS, after all your greatest and most powerful subject." Celestia looked away and smiled, slightly chuckling at Trixie's massive ego, Luna giggled quietly for another reason.
"Arrangements have already been made for you to stay in the castle until Luna makes her final decision." Luna sat up tall and commanded respect from her posture. Trixie quickly bowed and followed a servant out of the throne room. On her way to the bedroom where she was to stay, Trixie passed a unicorn who was headed for the throne room for her own chance. Trixie growled but kept her head high while walking. Trixie's horn started to glow under Trixie's hat and the rug that the other unicorn sprung up slightly enough for her to trip on it, which she did. The servant that was leading the other unicorn looked back; the rug quickly straightened itself out. The servant sighed and looked very unimpressed by the unicorn.
Trixie reached her room, she was surprised to find that all of her things were already organized and put away. Trixie sat on a stool in front of the mirror in her room and started to brush her mane with her magic, just as if she had finished any ordinary magic show. After brushing her mane, she retired to bed.
The next morning, Trixie awakened to a loud knock on her door. A voice spoke behind it, "Miss Trixie, breakfast is being prepared. You have been asked to join the princess at her table, please get ready and come to the dining hall." Trixie shot out of bed. Two brushes, Trixie's cape and her hat flew into the air and started to get Trixie ready. She yelled frantically at the door,
"Tell them Trixie will be right there!" She sat at her stool, her brushes racing to prepare Trixie for breakfast and the rest of the day. After a few moments of mane-pulling brushing, Trixie was satisfied with how she looked and trotted out of the door, the brushes she had used were full of her hair.
Trixie held her head high until she walked into the dining room of the princess and saw a few other unicorns sitting at the table. Trixie's eyes first widened and then narrowed at the other unicorns. She took her seat making sure to leave at least one empty seat between her and the other unicorns so she did not have to sit next to the competition. A servant entered the room and announced that princess Luna would be with them shortly and princess Celestia was meeting her own apprentice for breakfast. He left and a large awkward silence entered the room as the unicorns either glared at each other or their empty plates. Trixie smirked as her eyes wandered the room, her mind full of the things she could do to humiliate the other unicorns and prove she was the most qualified for the job. Trixie's horn started to glow under her hat.
Luna entered the room right as Trixie finished setting up the traps. All the unicorns stuck their noses into the air and broadened their shoulders confidently as Luna walked by. Luna took her seat at the end of the table and yelled in her Canterlot voice, "LET THE MORNING FEAST BEGIN." A few servants walked into the room carrying silver plates of food. The breakfast continued how it had started, with long awkward silences and glaring. Luna nervously looked around at her prospective apprentices. She then looked at Trixie curiously, Luna already knew what Trixie had done with her magic and was curious of the reason. A purple colt magically lifted up the pepper and positioned it above his salad. As he turned the shaker upside down the cap fell off and the contents of the pepper shaker drained out and onto his salad. Startled, the unicorn colt dropped the pepper shaker. It fell onto his plate which flipped over and spilled all over him. He asked to be excused so that he may clean himself up. Trixie remained collected and ignored the concerns of other unicorns. Luna's eyes simply widened as she observed further. Another unicorn asked to excuse herself to the bathroom and stood up, tripping, falling, and hitting her knee on the stone ground from a rope that had been magically tied to her hoof. Before the unicorn could see what she had tripped on the rope quickly flew into the corner of the room unnoticed. The unicorn looked around and found nothing she could have tripped on, so she shrugged and limped to the bathroom. The final unicorn looked at the other two and laughed. He reached for a bite of his food but his chair collapsed underneath him. The colt angrily walked off, after excusing himself to the princess. Trixie smirked, she was proud of herself for getting rid of the other unicorns.
Luna stood up and walked over to Trixie. Trixie's pupils got small as Luna asked her in a dark angry voice, "Why did thou sabotage thine other apprentices?"
"Trixie d-didn't!" She stuttered, "Trixie was simply playing a-a… Prank! Yes! Trixie was simply playing a prank of them." Luna lifted one eyebrow,
"What is this 'prank' thou speakst of?"
"A prank is when you do something funny to somepony else. I-it is just harmless fun."
"Fun? Did thou sayst, 'fun'?" Trixie nodded. "We adore fun. Will thou teach us how to partake in one of these so called 'pranks?'?" Trixie smirked,
"Of course Trixie can."
The purple unicorn was walking down the hallway after cleaning himself up. He walked back into the dining hall and a large bucket of water poured onto his head. Luna yelled, "HUZZAH, THOU HAST BEEN PRANKED." She laughed loudly. The purple unicorn colt remained apathetic and turned back around and left the room. Trixie laughed out loud,
"Ha excellent job princess. Trixie could not have done better herself." Luna giggled at Trixie, "Trixie wishes to know why you are laughing now."
"We think it funny that thou talks the way thou does."
"You think it is funny how Trixie talks?" Luna giggled again, "What about you princess? You speak in a much more humorous manner than Trixie does."
"It is because we were away for one thousand years. The last we remember everypony spoke the way we do."
"It is quite alright princesses. Trixie actually kind of likes how you talk,"
"And we like how thou speaks."
The two laughed and smiled at each other.
The day was finally here that Luna would crown her apprentice. Trixie sat on her stool with confidence now that she was going to be the unicorn that would be picked. Luna and Trixie had spent the days between the day Trixie got to the castle and the apprentice crowning day pranking the other unicorns. Luna and Trixie had nearly driven the other unicorns to insanity. Buckets of water were dropped, tails were tied together, you name it, they pranked it.
Trixie put on her hat and cape and walked into the throne room, the other unicorns glaring at her. Celestia looked around and asked, "Is everypony all here? Good now let us begin, Luna." Luna nodded at her elder sister.
"We have chosen our apprentice," Luna spoke firmly, "After long periods of time contemplating which of you are most worthy to be our apprentice, we have decided that Emerald Skyspirit is the most worthy and powerful unicorn out of all of you." Trixie's eyes shrank to minuscule size. Luna looked at Trixie and winked. The colt to Trixie's left jumped up and down in excitement.
"ALL THOU HAST TO DO NOW IS BATTLE US IN COMBAT TO TRULY TEST THINE POWER." The unicorn stopped jumped and looked up at Luna who had taken her Nightmare Moon form. He looked back at the door, then back at Luna. Before saying a word he and the other unicorns besides Trixie galloped out the door and out of the castle all together. Luna reverted to her normal form and started to laugh, Trixie soon joining in. Celestia warmly smiled at Luna and thought to herself that Luna never better proved that she was related to Celestia then she had done in that moment.
Luna smiled at Trixie and asked her, "Will thou be our apprentice, Trixie?" Trixie smiled and answered,
"Yes, The Great and Powerful Trixie will be honored to become your apprentice." Dark thoughts flooded into Trixie's mind as she planned her revenge on a certain purple unicorn.
