Okay...that is a kickass name. Zef. Rolls off the tongue, too!

I can't wait to see how many people think that's a nickname.

Probably a lot. Then some nut' s gonna "assume" that's your real name and you keep dismissing it like that one interview question I said earlier.

...and then Wikipedia authors get pissed at you cuz they now hafta correct every instance of the phrase "His nickname was Zef. No one knows his real name."

The ultimate troll move.
Then just laugh evilly as Wikipedia authors go insane.

Honestly...couldn't agree more. What's worse is...look at the interviews. With bands like They Might Be Giants, they always figure out a way to dodge the age-old "What's the meaning of this song?" question. Modern "musicians" that get that question outright spoil their songs and it just...kinda ruins the mood. I like to figure out the meaning of some random song I listen to (hell I'm so addicted to TMBG I've already figured out the meanings behind some of their songs.)

Let's not forget lyrical content these days. Now THIS is fun.

Back then, lyrics were a whole MYRIAD of topics, especially in Rock and Metal; you had war, death, religion, politics, love, peace, fantasy (and sometimes epic fantasy), literature, history, even lyrics praising their music genre (Ozzy Osbourne's You Can't Kill Rock and Roll, Sammy Hagar's Heavy Metal, Quiet Riot's Metal Health (Bang Your Head!)...)

These days: money, sex, partying, love, women, drugs/alcohol.

Back then, you'd be hard-pressed to find curse words in music. Diamond Head's Am I Evil? (I have the Metallica version. I actually heard that cover as my first experience with Metallica, even before Master of Puppets) was the only song I have on my playlist (from before 2000) that curses.

These days, they're a dime a dozen.
For God's sake, Rihanna has a swear word in one of her song's ding-dang TITLES! Is nothing sacred anymore?! There are children here!

And on what you said, here's another example of good, non-spoiling action from old bands: it took Black Sabbath (best band ever) almost FORTY YEARS before they revealed what Iron Man and Planet Caravan were about!
Then Ronnie James Dio only hinted at Man on the Silver Mountain's theme by saying it's about something religious. He never outright stated what it was (and he never will. R.I.P.).

Back then, you had to dig 3 miles deep to figure out what a song was about if it wasn't obvious in the title or lyrics as it was.

These days, wait for the "artist's" next interview to find out.

EXACTLY what I mean!! FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT!!

(Seriously...I can't tell ya enough how many times I almost got into arguments in middle school for my hatred towards modern "music")

And finally, someone who hates modern music as much as I do!

(You and me both, brother.)

Trust me...almost all the time when I go shopping, I just put buds in and listen to my own shit. Unless I hear good stuff like The Killers or whatever.

Whenever someone at school starts playing their music (if it's Rap ((ewww)) or Pop), I just put on my headphones, thinking, "Nope, not gonna put up with this."
Same goes for online gaming. I mute the person rudely playing music into the mic and get my speaker out.

My 1st Hour teacher likes putting on music during work time. Often, it's Pop or Country. He one time said that we couldn't put in our earbuds/headphones before he started playing Pop, and I thought, "So you're gonna subject us to musical torture? I'm pretty sure this violates our 8th Amendment rights."
He's more okay with us listening to our own music now, and the last time he put on music, it was classic Rock. Needless to say, it was enjoyable.
It's eating me up, though; there was a Led Zeppelin song that played that I'd never heard before. I liked it, and to this day, I don't know what the song was. Neither does he.

I once went into a hardware store with my dad and Led Zeppelin's "Over the Hills and Far Away" was playing. It was bliss.

I remember one day my Geometry/Algebra 2 teacher just...out of god-damn nowhere, started playing Metallica (he was using a Metal station from Pandora) ...and holy shit that was like...the best day ever.

Honestly, my art teacher kinda stopped giving a shit (which led to one table full of...dem boiz playing rap music AT HIGH VOLUME using a speaker, and me being a huge EDM fan at the time, I just put my buds in and cranked up my volume to OBSCENELY loud...like so loud everyone near me could hear it. And this was when I was big on Brony music.)

Speaking of Led Zeppelin, I need to dig out that 4 disc set and burn that shit onto my computer. Haven't listened to that in YEARS!!

I'd be more surprised if he put on Rhapsody of Fire. Here in America, RoF's not the most common radio band.

Oh Celestia. A bunch of people playing Rap ridiculously loud? Sounds like torture to me.

I honestly wanna make an album one day, all Traditional Metal (maybe with some Power Metal sprinkled in), whose topic is related to MLP.
If that starts a New Wave of Equestrian Heavy Metal (a bunch of Metal bands all tied around MLP), I won't even know anymore.

A New Wave of Classic/Traditional Heavy Metal, that's a major goal of mine.

It's even more torturous when I'm sittimy at a table at lunch with my friends...and there's another table full of said generic metal heads you mentioned earlier (the ones that try way too hard to look emo) and all I'm hearing coming out of the speaker...is what sounds like a Dragon growling into a microphone. While one of my buds (who is a huge Classic Metal fan...to the point where he dresses like a Greaser and sports a mullet and always has an Iron Maiden or Metallica shirt on) uses my cheap little speaker to blast out some classic rock and drown out that incessant growling.

...holy shit you should totally do that. Wait...you did mention you're part of a band right?

Me and your friend would get along nicely. I only wear band shirts, except when not applicable. I always start every week with a Black Sabbath shirt, then the rest just follows a random order. Heck, I'm wearing a Led Zeppelin shirt (and a brony wristband) right now!

Not yet. Certainly after college, though. It's my dream job, to be a Metal singer.
My band's name? Judgement Day. With the extra "e" spelling, so people know we don't fool around.
And given that I wanna start a New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal to revive Metal, the reason I picked that name should be easy to figure out.
I have two potential drummers who occasionally show up at my church group. They both have long hair and are way into classic Metal, down to the look!

I still would love to make an MLP album one day.
In fact, at BronyCon 2020, I wanna make an appearance and do a panel explaining how MLP changed my life and to perform the full version of the theme song, in Metal form, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the show.

Oh you two would get along extremely well yakking on and on about your favorite bands (and maybe reading smutfics in silly voices or some shit...which was what my group did at the end of my senior year. My god it was hilarious.)

Judgement Day sounds like really cool name for a band. And you should totally do a Metal cover of the MLP theme...if I ever went to cons I'd love to see your band just go all out and show us your stuff.

I don't have very many band shirts myself sadly. All I got is 3 concert tees. Styx, Chicago and Cheap Trick (yeah I'm a wuss, but I haven't seen very many concerts.) I REALLY wanted to see Bad Religion last year but sadly I had to work.

At 41 I have you both beat age wise. As an old school metalhead myself (been one since I was 12) it's nice to see younger metalheads exploring the 80s metal roots. There are some new bands that have picked up the torch of 80s metal. Among them: Skull Fist, Kryptos, Assassin's Blade. I'd mention some other bands but I don't yet know if youΒ or thegamerator10 are into the faster and more extreme side of metal (death metal, death/thrash, speed metal, etc)

As an amateur in terms of metal music, I'd honestly love to hear more. But as it stands, currently the only bands I've found that kinda work are Okilly Dokilly, Infinity Shred and Area 11 (Area 11 is a bit borderline, tho.)

I may hafta check those bands out, tho. They sound interesting. If you ever want to, feel free to suggest more. I've been yearning for some new music anyways.
