Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

The premise alone makes this illustration work. It takes a scene that’s already hilarious and gives it a whole new comedic edge. Rarity looks elegantly badass while rocking that electric guitar! It makes me want to rock with her! Plus, just imagining Rarity saying “this sh*t” in her Mid-Atlantic accent cracks me up! I have to say that I really admire the technical aspects in this picture. The highlights in Rarity’s mane and tail are wonderfully shaded, and other aspects like Pinkie Pie and the “shred’s” are out of focus enough. In terms of criticisms, I would suggest making Rarity’s head larger. It seems too small in comparison to the rest of her body. Also, maybe there could be some large music notes coming from the electric guitar to signify how much more powerful it is than the small acoustic one, which already has notes coming from it. Other than that, this piece is very well done. It’s well colored, the outlining is agreeable, and the shading aspects have been getting better. Once again, FlutterThrash, you manage to utilize your passion for rock music to add a wonderful sense of humor into work! I recommend you keep up the remarkable work!

Or Iron Maiden's The Number of the Beast.

Classic Metal screaming (which I call "shrieking") is the best.

Absolutely NO music genre beats the steel of Classic Heavy Metal.

Dio was awesome. On the anniversary of his death on Tuesday, I listened only to songs he sang in to honor him, the rock n' roll child.

Sammy Hagar and Kevin DuBrow (R.I.P. as well) are also two home-hitters.
Also, I'm 16 almost 17 and I worship classic Metal. Let that sink in.

Been listening since June 12, 2013. Was 12 almost 13 then.

Yeah, music is dead.
Metal is in a coma, too.

One of my goals is to make a Metal band that will help facilitate the revival of Traditional Heavy Metal. I'm on vocals.

HammerFall helped bring Classic heavy metal back in 1997. Judas Priest released their Jugulator album that same year. King Fowley of Deceased started his October 31 trad. heavy metal side band in the mid 90s. They released a covers album last year. Check out Metal Massacre 14 if you haven't already, some good new old school style metal bands on there. Skull Fist from Canada is another good one flying the old school metal flag. Kryptos from India also playing old school metal (Their Burn Up the Night album is awesome) The good bands are out there, you just have to know where to look and that's the metal underground. There are speciality metal websites to order from too such as Dark Descent Records, Abyss Records, Hells Headbangers and Relapse Records. Youtube is a good place to also discover metal bands, I discovered Kryptos that way.

As for new school metal, it was dead on arrival since it started in the 90s. Alot of we old school metalheads(I'm 41) still hold that new school metal sucks.

Check out this video for Kryptos - Full Throttle song from Burn Up the Night. It'll get you headbanging  www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YswLX…

Comparing modern Metal (or should I say modern "Metal? Poseur Metal?) to classic Metal is like comparing a lit match to a gamma ray burst (see what I did there? "Gamma Ray"?) in terms of brightness.

It's funny. A lot of people these days listen to Drake and Beyonce and all them (and the poseur metalheads Bring Me The Horizon and Pierce the Veil and all them) and here I am, a 16-year-old, who prefers to listen to Quiet Riot and Saxon. Funny how the universe works, no?

I did notice your Gamma Ray reference. I've known about them for some years. The band that Kai Hansen formed after he left Helloween. I have one Gamma Ray CD, No World Order.

Couple of more metal songs to share with you. Here's Stormwarrior's song Defenders of Metal (check out that cool album cover \m/) New band playing old school metal www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVPxy2…

Here's another one of Stormwarrior live covering Helloween's Ride the Sky with Kai Hansen as guest vocals www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1_Mnb…

I know the feeling. Back in 1990 (14 at the time) as others were getting into groove metal and grunge I was getting into thrash metal. In 92 I discovered death metal.( I got excited when I discovered that there were faster and more brutal styles of metal.  In 95 or 96 while some were listening to Load and Reload era Metallica I was discovering even more death metal, Boss Heavy Metal HM-2 death metal (this is a style of death metal fueled by using Boss's Heavy Metal HM-2 pedal (or a clone pedal of it) with all four knobs turned to max and played through a guitar amp's high gain channel. As with the rest of the extreme side of metal it's a like it or hate it style.) with Entombed's Left Hand Path album and Black Metal with Nuclear Blast's Death is just the beginning 3 double CD set.

Welcome to the metal underground. There's much to discover along with reissues of classic 80s metal albums.

Here's a 1986 classic for you. Sadly these guys never got further then this six song album. Was reissued in 2014 www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9Lj6k…

So far...I've been poking around. I found bands like Okilly Dokilly (a Ned Flanders themed metal band) and Infinity Shred (a Synth-Rock band influenced by metal. Gotta listen to their newest album to kinda find those metal roots there.) Area 11...dunno about them but I can...KINDA SORTA count em as metal. Not heavy enough, but kinda sorta on the margin.

And I agree...modern music is crap. That's why I never listen to the radio, tbh. All I ever hear is the same god damn dance tune with the same fuckin theme (going to a party and getting wasted) every damn time.

Gloryhammer is an awesome Power Metal band from 2010.
Sabaton and Sonata Arctica are also knockouts, as is Powerwolf.

I know! "Musicians" these days are suck poseurs, valuing quantity over quality. Some have said they're only in the music business for money. That's how you know they aren't true musicians.

Oh, one of my biggest pet peeves with music's subculture these days: assumptions about metalheads, post-Fall of Metal.

A lot of people these days think of two assumptions about Metal and its fans:
1.) That we're essentially emos, and that Metal is a lot of incomprehensible screaming and sad feels, yadda yadda yadda, which is actually the more Punk-oriented Screamo.
2.) That Metal is a bunch of incomprehensible growling, secular stuff, and songs meant to put down, with its fans a bunch of violent jerks. Also untrue.

My view on Metal: a genre full of vivacious talent and songs meant to get you fired up and wanting to bang your head all day, metalheads being a bunch of guys/girls with long, awesome hair (if you look at me, I've got a mullet, it looks like) wanting to have fun and add some fun to their lives.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PonyTatsujin In reply to thegamerator10 [2017-05-20 22:14:37 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh yes. The classic metal stereotype where everyone stupidly believes that every single metal band is either My Chemical Romance (which is Punk, not Metal) or...I dunno...any othe band that does Screamo or some shit.

Honestly...no. I've heard my share of metal and...lordy...not EVERY fucking metal subgenre does that!! Like...maybe one or two bands do. But not EVERY. SINGLE. ONE!! Seriously...if y'all need a good example...I remember listening to Rise Against on Pandora and I came across a song by Bullet For My Valentine (which I can KINDA SORTA count as metal...? Kinda sounded like it to me.) that sounded mind-bendingly awesome.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thegamerator10 In reply to PonyTatsujin [2017-05-20 22:23:52 +0000 UTC]

And when you try to tell them what Metal is and maybe show them, they assume it's Hard Rock instead.
Then the eye twitching comes and you wanna rip their ears off. Hard Rock is that borderline between Rock N' Roll and Heavy Metal. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

Damn right! The growling is sort of impressive, but nothing, and I mean NOTHING, compares to golden voice.
Power Metal is awesome. Rhapsody of Fire and HammerFall...
Faboi Lione (RoF) and Joacim Cans (HammerFall ((yes, that is the lead singer's last name))) are legendary singers.
