Description
1974 Plymouth Road Runner.... full custom. This is actually one of the alternate versions I developed for this car (look for the final version in the September Popular Hot Rodding Magazine!). I took a '74 Road Runner, and began by cutting up the factory front bumper for a leaner look, and added a lower chin spoiler (heavily influenced by the '70 Boss Mustangs) to reinforce a "street fighter" look. I threw on a pair of amber-colored inside headlamps as a nod to East Coast street machines I knew growing up... Next step was eliminating the stock hood bulge, and replacing the front wheel openings with '71/'72 vintage units, as they better matched the existing rears. Door handles are re-worked to utilize the door character line, and everything is slammed over some black-centered alloys (I'm still considering using small dog-dish caps...hmmmm....) A custom mix of "Top Banana" and "Vitamin C" paint is contrasted by the semi-gloss black roof and hood....
As always, Illustrator CS2, starting with pencil rough

My brother applauds your out-of-the-box thinking with this one! He especially digs the hood! Does it release the engine heat?

Actually, it was in the Sept. issue... sooner than I had expected, but appreciated! The actual rendering they ran is slightly different, and a bright green.
Thanks for checking it out! (...and Plum Crazy is one of my all-time favorite colors!)

Always loved this body style despite alot of people criticizing it. Great handling of the car to show how cool it really can be- Mike

Thanks! I've always loved that body style... Like you said, I wanted to show how cool it can be.... it just took some creativity to whittle out the uglier elements, and bring it all together. Thankfully, it pulled itself together!

Always been a fan of these cars for keepin good long-hood and raised rear arches alive as the 70's went through, without going all misshapen grille and false luxury on us. This is a great scheme, I love the black flowing up and over, and the amber lights tie in to that orange really nicely. I have to say, though - I'd go for the dog dishes. I've seen too many big wheels like that, when the standard low-budget look is really what it was all about. Actually, my biggest beef with the wheels is that they're too dark, and don't have any... orange. I think standard dog dishes, with an orange-stripe tire would look fantastic.
So... what about the trunk lid and around the taillights? What's black and what isn't, I mean... I love when stripes wrap over the roof but I always feel it leaves the back of the car hangin'...
... If you go with these wheels, maybe consider some other sort of matching orange tie-in... like, orange bolts around the chrome part?
And of course amazing media handling perspective and the usual. It's great that you've just gotten the craft of making the cars down so well that you can invest so much time in the design of the cars themselves.

I'll have to finish the rear view soon as I get time... I think you'll like my idea for tying in the hood and roof paint!
Thank you so much for your comment.... I always look forward to your insight and tremendous constructive commentary! I sincerely appreciate your time and thought!

pretty awesome stuff, i prefer the 69-70 roadrunners personally, but they are all amazing cars. the two tone paint works really nicely following the hood line on this.

Thanks! I chose this one, as it's considered to be one of the ugly ducklings...

my god you saved this car's life. they're so hideous with the front bumper and grille mostly to blame. you fixed that right up. i like the way the black kinda does what the stock stripe would do behind the side glass. i think the bright color will be good for this car too rather than something dark.

Nice! love the yelllow fog lights, makes it look like a car that is practical not just cool. The paint work is spot on, i think two tone really brings out the lines of a car if it's done right.

At first I thought Dodge Challenger, then Chevy Nova when I hit the fullview... Then I read the comments. Didn't know Plymouth made a car named the Super Bee.
