Is there any type of flower he’s been particularly …. Enamoured with? The tortoiseshell dug through a bush, snapping a flower off it’s stem gently- maybe this one? Would he look good with yellow? Monarchdance stuck the flower gently on their growing pile, many of the same flowers poked out against each other- but Monarch’s standard for these flowers had raised higher as they picked them. Maybe a second opinion would help? That would probably be better- there wasn’t much time until the whole camp was awake. The tortoiseshell took the mouthful of flowers gently, humming happily as they limped back through the camp entrance. No trace of him- perfect!

Tigerspring was awoken with a quick nudge and a quick, “Hey, wake up sleepyhead.” Something tickled their nose as a flower gently draped across their muzzle. They opened their bleary eyes curiously just in time to watch as flowers littered down onto their face. Spitting leaves out from their mouth, the younger warrior was now definitely awake. Tigerspring was looking around, flowers littered their nest and fur- they were very pretty… but what was the occasion? Monarchdance stood next to them with a wide grin, trying to stifle a laugh so they didn’t wake too many of the cats sleeping around them. The younger warrior threw a flower back at Monarchdance, chuckling before they could whisper, “Hey I don’t think I ever asked for a bouquet.”

“I need your help.” The request drew the sleepy tabby’s attention. “I’m going to surprise Ebonystar with a flower but I couldn’t decide which one was the best choice.” They realized that dropping them on their friend perhaps wasn’t the best idea to keep the flowers perfect… but it was funny for sure. “Help me out would you?”

Tigerspring smiled as they admired the flowers near their paws, “What? You, being indecisive? I never would have guessed.”

Monarchdance batted a petal from Tigerspring’s forehead as they responded, “Come on, I don’t have much time before he leaves his den. Any of them look good enough?” A cat nearby grumbled about the two being annoying.

“This one.” Tigerspring responded, pointing a claw at a yellow daisy, eager to get back to sleep no matter how much they enjoyed this conversation- sleep had been dragging their eyelids back down.

“Are you sure? Is it perfect?”

“Monarch.”

“No really, come on! Be honest.”

“Yes!”

Monarch chuckled, giving Tigerspring’s forehead a tiny lick. “Thanks Tiger, sleep well.” They grabbed the flower and turned to duck out of the den. It was fun to mess with Tigerspring, they were always very into anything Monarchdance tried to pull. The tortoiseshell purred around the flower they carried so gently, stepping up to the leader’s cavern hidden behind the waterfalls. Waiting for a moment, Monarchdance listened for any sound of movement that would indicate Ebonystar being awake. Yes! It was quick, but they heard the shuffle of Ebony’s paws within.

“Ebonystar?” They called, pausing a moment, “I have something for you, can you come out?”

“What? You have something for me?” Their old mentor’s voice was curious behind the sleepiness. “.... I’ll be out soon.”

It took a moment, but Ebonystar poked his head out of the den eventually. Monarchdance quickly placed the daisy on Ebonystar’s head before he could register their movement. Taken aback, their leader was silent, his eyes watching Monarch burst into laughter before looking up to view the yellow flower placed hurriedly by his ear. “Uh…. Thank you Monarchdance, I appreciate it…..”

After the shock wore off, Ebonystar had placed the flower onto Monarchdance, asking them to ‘hold onto it for him’- meaning he appreciated it but really.. Did not want it. That was alright, Monarchdance had fulfilled their true goal- starting Ebonystar’s day off with a smile. (That's right! They saw his lips quirk up! It was a bit but it was there!) What was better than helping their leader have a good start to the day?
