He thought he could maybe find something more out about the ring by like.. sticking his soul into it? He used the scythe as a medium. This thing EATS souls, and even though he got god to like... expunge it before trying this, you can guess how good of a plan it was.
Good news: he did not actually kill himself! Bad news: he definitely did some damage, and kinda fucked himself up.
Ori tried to yell at him, but he was kind of struggling to form a coherent sentence after this, and she quickly switched to just being terrified.
