Here's my half-assed explanation:

As you know, most living organisms have bodies that are made up of a fair percentage of water, and this super charged super villain is no different. Well, unless you count the fact that his water percentage has been charged with static like the rest of him, allowing it to travel through out his system without harming him. The liquids he ingests are immediately targeted by his mutated immune system as a threat and quickly go to work charging the water molecules with static to neutralize the threat. It does still leave a prickle in the back of his throat, with a lingering aftertaste of copper, even with distilled water, so he doesn't drink very often, and that's why if you do spot him at a bar, he's more likely to be fueling up with a car battery than with a cold drink.
